Shortcodes appearing on page, no "edit with Cornerstone" option

Sometime in the past few weeks, many of the pages on the site have shortcodes appearing on the rendered page, and the formatting is wrong. Here’s an example:

[vc_row padding_top=”0px”][vc_column width=”1/4″ fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px”]

These are not pages that have been edited recently, so nothing on the pages themselves has changed to cause this.

Additionally, there is no longer an “Edit with Cornerstone” option when editing a page.

Running latest version of theme and all plugins. Unsure what may be causing this issue. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for reaching out.
It only happens if the Cornerstone is not installed properly. Can you please check and make sure that the Cornerstone is installed and active? If yes, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I can’t see any issues with the Cornerstone plugin installation, so I’ve shared the login details via secure note.

Hello Thomas,

I see that you have previously installed the X Shortcode plugin which was used way before the Cornerstone Builder was created. I can safely assume that some of your pages were created manually using the X Shortcodes. This is why you are seeing those shortcodes in the WP Editor and why the shortcodes are rendered like the URL in the secure note below when you view the page live.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Actually, I only activated the X shortcodes plugin last week, thinking that might solve the issue. It did not. The pages that were built using the Cornerstone builder are not displaying properly, so your theory seems not to apply to the issues we’re facing here.

Additionally, there is no option to “Edit with Cornerstone” when I go to edit any page.

My issue is not resolved.

Thank you.

Hello Thomas,

If you have X Shortcodes, then your pages are not built with Cornerstone. Please be aware that only pages created with Cornerstone will have the “Edit with Cornerstone” button and can be edited with the builder. For those shortcodes that you are referring to, you will need to install WPBakery Page Builder which is a bundled plugin. You can do it in X > Extensions.

Best Regards.

OK, it was the missing WP Bakery Page Builder that was causing the issue. Not sure how that plugin was no longer active, but once I activated it, it allowed me to find the “Edit with Cornerstone” button on all pages once again, and solved the shortcodes appearing on rendered pages. (And even pages built in Cornerstone were not showing the “Edit with Cornerstone,” FYI)

X-Shortcodes had nothing to do with it. The shortcodes are from WP Bakery Page Builder.

Thanks for the help.
