Shortcode for "post categories"

Hi there

Is it possible to show a list of all available post categories in a text element with a shortcode?

As example, on my Home-Page in the right column, I would like to have a list beneath the latest post, which shows all further categories for the posts ant by clicking on a category you get to the Posts-Page showing only the posts within this category.

Hello Felix,

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully there isn’t any available shortcode in the theme that will lists all the category links. You might need to install a 3rd party plugin instead.

Thank you very much for your reply. I think, I explained my question wrong. There is a widget, called “categories”. Is it possible to place this widget in a text element?

Hello Felix,

Thank you for the clarifications.

You will not use a text element for that. To accomplish what you have in mind, please do this:

  • Go to Appearance > Sidebars and create a custom sidebar
  • And then go to Appearance > Widgets and insert a “Category” widget into the newly created custom sidebar
  • Now that everything is set, please go back and edit your page in Cornerstone or Pro Editor
  • Insert a Widget element into the column where you want it to display and select the “Custom” sidebar.
