Setting up layouts with woocommerce and priorities

Man oh man, I have tried my best to get my head around this, but I cant get it to work.

So I have the main shop:

https://alesacollections.com/shop/

That should display every product. Which is does. And have its own header.

Then I have a menu that sorts the main shop into categories. They have their own header, (that only displays the category name) and products per category, using dynamic content etc. That works, BUT, I added a new layout, using tags, and set the priority to what I thought should be correct, but now the header for the categories, displays the header for the collections (the new layout)

I cant get my head around these priorities, this is how I have them:

All products:

Categories:

this should just have a title up top, but instead, on the site its showing the collections header

Then the collections layout:

What should each priority be for the pages to show the correct headers (layouts)?

And if I add another page like Collections, what would the priorities be etc?

Thanks.

Hello @logoglo,

Thanks for writing in! The Priority comes into play if you have two assets that might potentially overlap in some instances, allowing you to specify which should take precedent over the other. In these cases, the layout with the lowest priority will be used.

I have compared your screenshots. I am seeing the conditions and assignments including the priority number. What I am curious is if you have created a custom header. That header will have the same condition with your layout so that the header will display with your WC layout.

If you can provide us your WP login so that we can check both your layout and your custom header and their assignments or priorities.

Best Regards.

Thanks, also, I forgot to mention, the shop categories are set up using categories, and the collections with categories and tags…maybe that will help you…

The headers for each individual shop item, “Nuevo’s” and Populares" should just have the same background in the header, but only say the name of the catagory…so no “colecciones”, that should only be on the colleciones categories

Thanks.

Hello @logoglo,

You need to set a condition for both Column 1 and Column 2.

These condition means that the headline will appear only for the shop page and the the Archive Titles will only appear in the product category archive pages.

Hope this makes sense.

Ok, I will check tomorrow, I think this is how I have it setup like this now, the issue was with the 3 different headers….this will work for the collections too? (They have tabs, and the template for that is different to the category, and shop pages)

I want the single cat items to have the simple header.

The shop to have its header.

And each collection category, with its tag, to have its own header ( the one that says colecciones)

Thanks.

I don’t think this is the issue, before I added the collections tab, the individual categories and shop where showing their headers correctly, it’s when I added a different header for the collections (those are sorted using a tab) is when things went wrong…

Hi @logoglo,

I have checked the layout and found that the condition is working exactly what is explained by my colleague in his post. Those are two conditions that can be used, now if you want to show different headers, you can create and assign them accordingly to the respective categories.

Thanks

I have set it up with 3 different layouts for the 3 different types of pages I need, and assigned them:

But this is still not doing what I want it to.

I need it to look like this this.

Shop page: (with its own header)

Single product category pages, in the drop down menu in todos. These are setup with a category. To look like this, simple title header:

Then, I have a collections page. This is setup like the category pages, but also uses a tag to sort them. This should display the blurb about colleciones, and the title below of said collection. Currently, how you have it setup, only shows the simple headline, and doesn’t show the blurb above. I tried adding a condition to it, but now the single items are showing this blurb too.

This is how the collections should look:

You have access, so Id appreciate you having another look, I cant seam to get it right, and you guys are the experts, and it shouldn’t take you much time right?

Thanks.

Hello @logoglo,

This should be the correct conditions:

1.) For the Shop index, the “All Products” layout, you have this:

2.) For the Product Category archives, the “Prod Cats” layout, you need to have this condition:

3.) Lastly, for the Coleciones, Colleciones (Dragones) category archives, the “Prod Collections” layout, you will need to have this conditions:

Even if you have a -1 priority, as long as you have the above condition, the “Prod Collections” layout will be used in those archive pages.

Hope this explains the conditions for your layouts. Cheers.

Thanks so much, nearly there…

So the collections are going to have many categories, I added a new one called CATS but its not showing the collections header, does this mean I have to add a condition for each sub category of collections? this wouldnt be great for my client, I want it to work automatically…Is there a cleaner way of doing things?

Hello @logoglo,

Since you are planning to add more Colleciones categories, it is best that you switch up the conditions and use -3 priority for the " Prod Cats" layout.

And then simply use -1 with generic Tag or Category archive page as the condition of the " Prod Collections" layout.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

Kinda, but not quite…this works, but remember that all the categories under the Todos menu should be the simple header, just saying the name of the category, like it was setup before this priority change, and the conditions change…populares, nuevos, and all the items in the menu under todos should be the simple header, no blurb, then the main shop with its header, and then the collections header for the collections with tag…

If I where to do it this way, then Id have to add each category as a condition, again, not the best way of doing things…

So to recap.

1:TODOS (the shop with its header and blurb)

2: Then categories under this (each product) plus nuevos, and populares. Too have a simple title header, no blurb.

3: Collectiones (kinda like the shop items, but it will have its own categories of collections) With its header and blurb.

the best setup was before these changes, it was working how I wanted, but meant I would have had to have added each category for each collection, I want it to work like the shop, but with the tag “colleciones”

Thanks for your patience and perseverance.

Hi @logoglo,

There are three different parts of your website where you are trying to assign the different headers. In that, 1st is Todos menu i.e. ANILLOS and PULSERAS which are Product Categories. 2nd one is other product categories except the first two. And 3rd one is colleciones tags. To implement a separate header for specific categories, you need to mention those in the condition as shown by my colleague and set the priority lower that the main category header to override. And then you need to set the condition for the colleciones tag which has other categories in a different header.
So you need to create three different Header for this and assign the condition as described earlier.

Please let us know if you are having any issues with this.
Thanks

:frowning: I have had 3 different headers since the start :frowning: and @ruenel had it setup as he mentioned, but it’s still not working as I want, and I explained why in my last post.

I was hoping I could have the collecitons setup like the normal products, but use a tag to sort as well as a category I think I will just revert back to how you had it a couple of replies back, and manually add the collections categories for each, even though it’s not the best way of doing things, it is working how I want it to…this is taking too long, my client needs to launch. Thanks for your help thus far,

OK, so another issue has arisen. Head here:

https://alesacollections.com/product-category/anillos/

My client started adding products, the “ANILLOS” using the category “ANILLOS” it works, but then really doesnt work, and it seams random, or a bug maybe.

If you see there, it should be showing all the “anillos” as the looper is set to show all, but its only showing 5. Top right it says 6 (as there are up to now 6 anillos uploaded) so its missing a product, and then when you sort, it shows the missing one, but takes away another one, so always showing 5 instead of 6.

Same thing here: https://alesacollections.com/product-category/productos-nuevos/ (says showing 4 but only shows 3)

And here:

https://alesacollections.com/product-category/productos-populares/

Also, I just tried adding another cat here

https://alesacollections.com/product-category/piercings/

The 1st product I added didn’t show at all, I added a 2nd, and the 2nd one appeared, then if you sort, it randomly shows the 1st or 2nd product I added.

This is getting very confusing for me and my client. They should just be able to upload a product, assign a category, and it appears in said category.

Pleas help.

Do I need to start a new thread for this? I haven’t heard anything back.

We still need some help with this , please.

Ok, I have been playing around, and something to add, and this is very strange…if I just duplicate the section, the duplicated section…works!

Hey @logoglo,

The cause of the issue is you set the Category Title (Headline element) as a Consumer.

Removing the Consumer setup for the Headline fixed the issue (see screenshot below).

Just a suggestion, it would be best that you open a thread for separate topics. The issue I fixed is not connected to the Priority feature. Moreover, the thread is already long and it’s confusing especially for new staff looking at the thread.

Thanks.

That’s me told  my apologies, though I did ask if it where best to start a new thread earlier, but hey, thanks for getting this thing working.
