Setting Up A Staging Environment

Hello there,

I would like to be able to create a staging/development environment so that I can re-design my website from the ground up. Start from scratch.

I realize that it’s impossible to use this theme and have access to all of the extensions that I need to do this by simply using a localhost server. I want to find out what I need to do to finish up my set up.

Alright, so this is what I’ve gotten done so far.

  1. I’ve set up a server using WAMP.
  2. I believe I’ve created a virtual host.

Now that I’ve created the virtual host in my C: drive I am pulling blanks on a lot of the tutorials that I’m finding to accomplish my goal.

I want to know three things:

  1. Can I start with a fresh Wordpress website using this theme and a virtual host? Or is it supposed to be some sort of clone of my live site?
  2. Would it be easier if I just buy a new theme license and use that and can I use that on a localhost? (I’m not against this method)
  3. It appears that I own two licenses, one that says production and one that says staging. When I tried to use the staging validation code it said that it appears to be in use. Where is this license being used?

Sorry for all the trouble, I’m just trying to set up a staging environment and I initially hoped that it would be possible with a simple localhost. I’m personally quite confused trying to set up a virtual host.

Thanks for writing in!

You can use you same license that you have for the live site in a staging setup.
I can see you have only one license, another one is the purchase code which you have already converted. That won’t work .

Use add your staging URL in the staging field of your license page.

Then use the same license key that you have for live site for validation. That would work.

To answer your other question,

You can do both, you can copy a live site and duplicate it to your localhost. Or start a fresh site to your localhost.
