I’m looking to sell any ebook on my site but didn’t how to do this within X Theme. Do I need a separate plugin, if so are there any that anybody can recommend?
Ideally I’d like to control exactly how and where it appears on my site

Out of the box, X nor any theme does not have eCommerce functionality. You will need to use WooCommerce for this.
X does have some integration with WooCommerce as you can see in our demos.
Please just note that you still need to know how WooCommerce works as that is a separate system from our theme. You can read the WooCommerce Documentation at https://docs.woocommerce.com/documentation/plugins/woocommerce/
You can insert a product to any page using a WooCommerce product shortcode.
