Self Hosted Video Background doesn't work when squirrly plugin is activated

http://138.128.175.130/~concretecoatings/

When I have Squirrly SEO activated the background video doesn’t work. I de-activate Squirrly SEO and it works just fine.

All plugins, themes, wp, php, etc were all up to date.

Any insights?

Hi @alex5252,

Thank you for reaching out to us. If your SEO plugin is causing an issue then I’d suggest you to try any alternative plugin e.g you can use Yoast SEO which doesn’t seem to have any issue with the theme. However we cannot provide support for third party plugins or scripts as our support policy in the sidebar states due to the fact that there is simply no way to account for all of the potential variables at play when using another developer’s plugin or script.

Thank you for your understanding.

So I switched to Yoast and it works on desktop but the video does not work on mobile, even when reverting to the pro theme and disabling all plugins. So perhaps the video background is a smidge less robust than would be desired.

Hi @alex5252,

If you are referring to the video background at the header part then it is just showing properly on my actual mobile devices. If this is the case, I doubt that it has something to do with the cache on your end. I suggest that you clear any 3rd party cache and also clear your mobile browser cache.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

I’m not using any 3rd party caching quite yet. Cleared my mobile cache. Did not resolve the issue. I’m testing on an iphone 7+.

This is the image directly after clearing my cache.

This is the image after disabling the child theme and all plugins.

As you can see there is no video.

Hello @alex5252,

Your video, TRS-website-Hero-Video.mp4, is a 1920x1080p with 124MB file size. When I checked your site on my phone, it plays though it is slow. It could be my connection or that the file size is too big which needs to buffer first before it plays and then pause a bit and then continue playing.

If you have the original video, please convert it to a smaller resolution like 720p and then upload it to your site. We can then compare how fast video plays between 1080p and 720p on mobile devices.

Kindly let us know once you have uploaded a smaller video file size for comparison. Thanks.

I said I was testing on an iphone 7+ where it is not working. You tested on an android. I know it works on an android.

Test on an iphone. My phone is a iphone 7+, but many of my colleagues have various different iphone models. Nobody can get the video to work on their iphone, regardless.

You can show that it works on an android all day long and you will also be telling me something I already know, and know not to be an issue.

I you aren’t testing this on an iphone then you are wasting both of our time. I made this clear in my previous message that I was testing this and getting these results on an iPhone.

Future tests must, absolutely, 100% exclusively, be an iPhone.

Hi Alex,

Yes, I can replicate the issue, but it seems this is not an issue with the player, but with the video itself, the video size is 118MB, and it’s not web-optimized.

I tried it with a sample video and it works, please optimize your video in both .mp4 (H264) and .webm format. You can put two video URL on the Video Source field separated by vertical bar | character to cater to a wide range of browsers.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!
