Section Padding still broken in Cornerstone 3

I brought this up in previous versions and was told it would be looked into, but now there is brand new version 3 and it’s still not resolved.

It’s a fairly big issue…

When you try to alter the padding on a section when using Cornerstone, the default CSS styling of the plugin overrides the styling that you have done in the editor…

The plugin default CSS using an ID for the reference but the editor generated one uses a class, so the default always takes priority.

Please can you fix this urgently? I love Pro, X and Cornerstone, but this is such a large issues for usability and is such an easy fix…

Thanks in advance.

Hi @BrowndogDesign,

This is something we plan to address in our next major release. For now I would recommend using a classic section. You can do this by holding cmd/ctrl before clicking “Add Section”. The Classic layout elements are not affected by this problem.

Aw man really? I was told before that it would be addressed in the “next major release”.

When I’m handing over the site to an and user / client, cornerstone has a bit more of a learning curve than the basic WP Editor anyway, but then asking them to do this to add a Classic Section? It’s just too much.

It’s such a simple fix, it’s like a line of CSS surely? I could go and edit the plugin files myself but i’d prefer not to.

In fact it’s not even a line. The div container for #cs-content also has .cs-content as a class, and if you changed the CSS to reference that instead then it would get overridden by the generated CSS.

Hi @BrowndogDesign

You have heard the word from the man himself, Alex is one of our lead developers and responsible for our amazing tools.

Please stay tuned.

Thanks

No worries, thanks for the response.

I know you won’t be able to give accurate timescales, but any ball park ideas as to when next major release could be? Is it going to be a month or two, several months or next year?

Also is there any plans in the works to allow for columns within columns? You can create columns with text etc, but if you want to put other stuff in you can become a bit stuck without writing the HTML.

Cheers

Regretfully I can’t provide an ETA. I can however tell you that the focus of our next release is stability, performance, and addressing aging backlog items (like this one).

If you’re comfortable trying out betas there is a way to get access earlier in the process. Go “Edit Account Info” on your Dashboard page and enable pre-release access. This will allow you to enter the beta forum and see announcements on progress weeks before the official release goes live.

As for columns in columns, this is not something we have plans to allow natively. There are two challenges preventing this:

  • It overcomplicates the UI of the Layout tab of the builder
  • In terms of being responsive, nested columns still “break” at the same screen sizes. This can lead to some awkward layouts or require additional CSS.

If the second issue doesn’t bother you, there is a viable alternative with Cornerstone 3. You can make a Global Block with it’s own structure of sections rows and columns. Because a Global Block is placed as an element in another page, you can effectively get a nested column structure.
