Search not working when not logged in

Hello,

For some reason, just recently our search has stopped working unless I am logged into WordPress.

It’s the magnifying glass on the navbar.

Can you help?

Thanks, Gav

Hey Gav,

Yes, we can help if the issue is only with our theme. It’s highly likely though that all Javascript functionality that powers the opening of the search modal and also the submenu in your site is broken due to incorrect optimization.

That said, please perform the following troubleshooting steps.

  1. Disabling All Optimizations Like CSS/Javascript Minification and Cache
  2. Testing For Plugin Conflict
  3. Theme Update
  4. Child Theme
  5. Css/Js Customization

Once all that’s done and nothing helps, please give us the following information in a Secure Note. Please keep all optimizations and 3rd party plugins temporarily disabled.

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin level username and password

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks.,

Thanks, Javascript optimization was the issue.

What x-theme script runs search?

Hello @gavgeorge,

Please be advised that the X and Pro themes do not have any search scripts. The theme relies on the WordPress script. Upon checking, I have found out that you are using a child theme and that in your child theme, you have search.php and other file modifications that affect the search results page. Kindly switch to the parent theme to troubleshoot your child theme modifications. Be aware that custom development is way beyond the scope of our support. You may need to contact the creator of the modifications of your child theme or a 3rd party developer.

Tip: Kindly check out your php error log to investigate and look at the errors of your search page closely.

Thank you for your understanding.
