Search Engine Console - Video Page Indexing Issues

Hi there

We use Theme X Version: 10.3.9 with a child theme and Cornerstone Version 7.3.9

Starting about three weeks ago Google Search console started to send us video indexing warnings. We have 40 videos on our site.

26 videos now have indexing issues while 14 do not.

All of these are hosted on YouTube. Most of these videos have been embedded on our website for at least several months with most having been embedded for at least a year or much more.

We have not made any changes to how we embed these videos.

We embed videos by either using the video element or by embedding the through code. Most are embedded through code.

Search Console does provide reasons why the videos arent being indexed. These include:

Video outside of the viewport and Video too tall.

I will share by private note two example of videos that search console indicates arent indexed.

Please take a look and let me know what we might do to resolve this.

Hey Tim,

The issue is that Google might not be able to read the contents of Javascript-powered interfaces like the Tab element if you don’t allow it to read the Javascript codes of your site. This subject is beyond our theme (allowing Google to access Javascript in your site), and we cannot fix this search console error.

Try using the Video element outside of the Tab element.

@christian - Thank you foe explaining it. That makes sense. We’ll either move the video outside the tab element or just live with it.

Hi there -

The issue is now applicable to videos that are NOT under a tab. In this case the video is displayed using the standard video element. I will share the page in question via a private note. Please take a look and let me know. Thanks Tim

Hey Tim,

I noticed that your video is lazy loaded. Google might not be able to read or recognize lazy loaded videos.

That is not caused by our theme. Kindly deactivate your website optimizations and test again. Also, deactivate all 3rd party plugins and child theme to test further.
