Scrolling in megamenu causes high "Cumulative Layout Shifts" in core web values

Hello,

Please see the video attached in the secure note. The CLS value keeps climbing as you scroll. Web.dev/cls says that scrolling should not increase the CLS value, but apparently with mega menu it does…

IS there a way to stop this?

Hey @fxground,

Visually inspecting the mega menu on my phones (Android and iOS), I don’t see any layout shifts. Would you mind telling us how your tool decides that there is a shift in the layout? Otherwise, it would be really hard if not impossible for us to know where the issue is according to your tool.

Sure, here is how the CLS is measured: https://web.dev/cls/

It’s part of chrome dev tools (Performance -> Rendering -> Core web vitals) so this is how google is measuring it when they report it back in the search console for site improvements

I went with a different menu system that didn’t increase the CLS since it didn’t sound like this would be resolved as soon as I needed. But just so you’re aware, that designcloud item does have an issue with it (if someone brings this up later with the same issue).
