Revolution Slider Video Quality - HTML5

Hi, I’ve uploaded an mp4 video via HTML5 on Revolution Slider and it is clearly (though slightly) worse quality/resolution than the mp4 file on my computer. I can send you the file if you want so you can compare it with the slider video in my unpublished website preview (afreemankind.com).

I just would like to know where exactly the breakdown in quality occurs… is it a browser thing, or do all videos suffer and get lost in translation when you upload them to a website? This is my first rodeo.

Thanks,

Jake

Hello Jake,

Do you still have the original version of the video? You might need to convert your video first using HandBrake (https://handbrake.fr/). Your video might be corrupted or something. Often times, the video will be loaded by the browser in SD instead of HD or the full video especially if the connection is not that super fast. If the video is in good condition and has properly converted, most likely, the browser is at fault. You might need to compare how the videos is displayed by testing it in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.

Hope this helps.

Oh yea it’s definitely the browser, I just compared the video in IE and Chrome and surprisingly IE is obviously higher quality. Bummer. I’m guessing there’s no way to force people’s browsers to load the video in the highest quality right? I only ask because I know you can add “&fmt=22” to the end of Youtube video url’s to direct people to its HD version. Can the same be done in browsers?

Thanks for the help,

Jake

Hi Jake,

This option would not work on self hosted videos because the browser would need to download the resource of the video and depending on the connection of the user the loads the video, what will display will vary.

Ok, thanks a lot.

You’re welcome.
