Revolution Slider play audio button not working in Microsoft Edge browser

Hello Team!

I have created a video Revolution Slider for an alternative homepage I am building for a client. In order to have the video autoplay, but still allow sound to be played if the visitor wants to hear it, I created a Play Audio button following the instructions here: https://www.themepunch.com/faq/youtube-mute-unmute-button-patch/.

This feature works great, all except for one thing. The audio for the video plays automatically when the page is viewed using the Microsoft Edge browser, and I cannot have that! Auto-playing audio is completely unacceptable and I thought that all browsers prevented this, but apparently not Edge. I was able to fix this by setting the video layer in Revolution Slider to mute audio, and that way it still plays on all of the other browsers when you hit the Play Audio button, but the button does NOT work in the Edge browser. I really need this button to work. I’ve had to create custom CSS to deal with other Edge related issues before, but I honestly don’t even know where to start here. Your help would be so greatly appreciated!

The page that this video slider is on is called Homepage Video New, and is a draft, so I will include my credentials after this message in case you need them.

Thank you!
Rayna

Hey Rayna,

The button actually works. However, the volume is very low in Edge you can barely hear the sound.

Regretfully, I’m unable to provide a workaround for this so I’ll post this to our issue tracker so the person in charge for bundled third party plugins would forward this to ThemePunch in due time.

Please stay tuned.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for your response @christian_y. Something that doesn’t make sense to me though is that the audio plays just fine in Edge if I unmute it in the slider settings. So why would it then play with such low volume when the button is clicked?

For now I have just hidden the button for Edge, but clearly not a long term solution. Do you think if I actually purchased a license from Theme Punch, which would then allow me to get support on this directly from them, that could help move this fix faster? My client is going to want this to work, and they’re not going to want to wait around for a long time…

Hi Rayna,

Sorry, but on my end, the audio volume on Edge is just the same as the volume on Chrome. The video autoplay in mute and then become unmute when a user clicks the button, is that how it supposed to work right?

But this is on my dev site because I can not see the unmute button on your site even though I’ve exported your slider.

Do you have custom scripts on your site that controls the volume of the video? Would you mind clearing your Edge browser’s cache and test it again.

Thanks,

Thank you for your response. I apologize for my delayed response - I had to go out of town.

I have hidden the button for the Microsoft Edge browser with some custom CSS, which is why you are not seeing it.

I do not have any custom scripts controlling volume. I will unhide the button and then clear my Edge cache, and then test it.

Hi Rayna,

I checked and yes, the button isn’t working (audio won’t play when clicked). And one thing I noticed is, the Step 4 in https://www.themepunch.com/faq/youtube-mute-unmute-button-patch/ is not implemented. Is that intentional?

And looks like the volume stays at 0 in Edge, which means, even if it the audio plays there will be no sound. So it could be a bug between Unmute Media action and Edge which I could reproduce on my installation which is already reported by Christian. You may hide the button for now and wait for the next update from Revolution Slider.

Thanks!
