I’m using Rev Slider and in Firefox it takes forever to load (I have optimized as much as possible) and stutters through the transitions. Another site I built with a slider previously has even worse problems. The slider layers flash in and out and only the background image ends up staying on the screen. I’ve kept everything up to date on both sites.
In Chrome it loads ok. In Safari, it’s very slow but does eventually load. Appreciate any help you can provide, as this is a major issue that just occurred and is holding up launching this site.
(Bonus points if you can suggest any way to defer parsing without screwing up Rev Slider- this is likely one cause of the slow page load)
I will send credentials in a private message next.
Hello @jlswilton,
Thanks for writing in!
Did both of the sites worked out fine in Chrome browser? Most probably, this is a browser related issue. Please clear the Firefox/Safari cache or use private browsing mode and test it again. Also make sure that there aren’t browser extensions that maybe causing a conflict as well.
Please let us know how it goes.
Cleared everything in Firefox and used private browsing- the issue remains. I removed all extensions as well. The only browser where it works ok is Chrome.
Hi @jlswilton,
I checked and somehow able to reproduce the performance issue. But not on all devices, some are more sluggish and some aren’t that bad. But on windows, its transition is smooth and okay. My colleague was able to reproduce it too but in comparison, it’s not identical to my test. My conclusion is, this is due to device and browser’s performance depending on how much the current load of the system and the browser’s capability, it’s because all of this animation and transition are done through javascript which uses device’s CPU and RAM. And it’s more noticeable on Firefox since it performs differently.
For the meantime, could you try disabling the Ken Burn’s Pan Zoom feature? Then please test it again on your end.
Thanks!
Ken Burns is off- it was never enabled.
Your conclusion does not explain why suddenly there is a huge change in performance. The second site I mentioned in my secure note was working beautifully across all browsers until just recently. I test on the same devices every time but have had others check on their devices as well, and Chrome and mobile Safari are the only ones not impacted (and even mobile Safari isn’t great). I really don’t think this is a browser issue.
TIA for your continued assistance.
Hi @jlswilton,
The noticeable issue that I am seeing is the sudden jump of the navbar when scrolling in the slider area, so it might be related. Please navigate to Theme Options > Header and set a 60px Navbar Top Height.
Also, make sure that Firefox’s Smooth Scrolling option is turn On.
Thanks,
Smooth scrolling is already turned on.
I added a navbar top height but this does not impact the functioning of the slider. The Sisters site that I sent you info for also already has a navbar height, and that particular slider is not really functioning at all. Are you not seeing this on Firefox? It takes ages to load (it is very optimized and works fine in most other browsers) and the image stutters and on the Sisters site, the layers don’t even stay visible. I am really frustrated.
Hi @jlswilton,
Sorry, but we cannot replicate those slider issues, in fact, the sliders on those sites load really quick on Firefox (see the screencast in the secure note).
Can you test it on a different computer and see if the issue is happening there.
Thanks,
