Relative links not working for essential grid

We have been using he Essential Grid plugin with X for some time now to create a featured app portfolio:

recently, the links stopped working correctly. We use relative URL’s to point to pages on our site but while we might enter sometime like: /usc-gameday/ to refer to the page: http://theappcompany.com/usc-gameday/ it gets rendered in the code as usc-gameday/.

If we try to enter the full URL and save, it appears to be saved but when we leave and come back, there is nothing saved. Any ideas?

Hello @lakong,

I can see the issue on the page. Something is missing with multiple ///.

Can we do a basic troubleshooting first? You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

If this is not another plugin issue, please share credentials inside a secure note so we can check skin setup. Thank you.

Hello @lakong,

I have logged in and investigated the issue. It seems that custom url gets checked by the plugin and it does not seem to accept relative. Since you have a custom grid, it is best that you use absolute path instead of relative. Please edit your links and convert it to absolute path instead.

Best Regards.

It was working with relative, but that’s fine. We tried saving absolute paths but nothing saves. You can try yourself. We even tried to add a new item to the grid. What’s weird is when I did this, it shows the new items at the top, but when I then refresh the page, it goes away, so nothing is saving. We have tried tried deactivating all other plugins, but that does not help. Question… for a quick fix – we really need to get this working asap – I could just edit the URL’s in the DB but not sure how to do it. Here is what it now saves for each URL:

“\/usc-gameday\/”

How would I change this for http://www.theappcompany.com/usc-gameday/

Not a great solution, but at least it would fix the broken links until we can figure out, with your help, how to fix this once and for all.

Thanks, Scot

Hello @lakong,

Please edit your grid and scroll down to each of the custom grid entries.

You will have to replace the link of each grid item to use absolute path.

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your help and explanation. We do know how to edit the links but as we mentioned, it’s not saving for us. When I saw that it worked for you on the USC one, I thought that maybe it was a browser issue so while we were using Chrome, we switched to Safari and Firefox and neither worked. Here is a video that shows what I’m seeing:

Notice that it appears to save but when I refresh the screen or leave and come back, my changes do not take effect. Any ideas and why do you think it worked for you and not us?

Hi Scot,

Please click the save icon too, clicking the save button from the popup will only save the data temporarily as the pop-up close. And to finalise the saving process, you still have to click the green save icon just like how you’re saving the entire grid settings.

Thanks!

Thanks. That explains it! Really appreciate the patience and support!
