Recreating Regular Layout in Cornerstone (Torture)

Hello.

I’ve been trying to recreate my homepage at https://yourcollegeblog,com in Cornerstone.

The page template I’m using in Cornerstone is Blank - No Container | Header, Footer.

It’s different from my original page Layout - Content Left, Sidebar Right.

I chose this template in Cornerstone because I’m adding a Revolution Slider at the top of the page, as well as some other things. I want them to be in full screen without the sidebar, that’s why I chose the No Container template.

Now that I have those things done, I want to recreate my original homepage. This is the problem I’m having:

  1. I can’t create the same column widths: https://puu.sh/CSwCb/e3ed0d59b9.png. The custom sizes only work with whole numbers up to 5/6 + 1/6, so I can’t get it to be exactly the same. Is there a way to create the sizes using percentages?

The widths are important because on my original homepage, the background colour of the sidebar touches the very right. In Cornerstone, it doesn’t. This means that it’s not going to the same as the other pages.

  1. I can’t seem to find the shortcode to have the exact same recent posts section on the left of my original homepage. Every recent post I can find is either ugly or vertical.

Any ideas? I’ve been at this for 2 days straight :frowning:

Hi Andy,

Thanks for reaching out.

The columns are based on percent, but percent are only limited to its container. There are spaces and layout hierarchy that affects the sizes that’s why you’ll never get the same dimension, unless you fixed the value instead of percent, but it still not applicable. For that, I recommend still using Layout - Content Left, Sidebar Right and since it’s just about slider dimension, you could just add your slider below your masthead.

About your second question, what’s on your home page is theme’s post listing and it’s not part of the shortcode. And it’s specific to Ethos stack. The recent posts shortcode are just simple display regardless of a stack. It can only be achieved with custom development (your own shortccode that has the same layout as Ethos post listing) which we can’t provide here in the forum. I recommend contacting a developer, or you could use other plugins that display the same layout.

Thanks!

This is what happens after I use the Below Masthead option:

My other elements get very messed up if I use this option, so I don’t think I’m going to use it.

Regarding the recent posts, how can I get more Cornerstone elements? I’ve tried to google “Download Cornerstone elements” but I can’t seem to find anything. Are we limited to what’s provided to us?

Also, how can I increase the container width so that everything is wider?

Hi Andy,

Thanks for reaching out.

May I know which other elements and your desired result? It looks good in your screenshot. If it’s about the width, then it could be change with CSS for that specific page.

Yes, it’s only limited to the current features and it’s something that can’d be downloaded in the internet. But elements could be provided by other plugins, and since it’s a 3rd party then I can’t provide any specific plugin.

You can increase the width and max-width within Theme Options > Layout and Design

Thanks!

Hi!

If I’m being honest, I basically want to have a very similar layout to:

https://camperreport.com/

He also uses this theme, but somehow everything is working out so well for him.

  1. He has a full-screen slider at the top of his page
  2. He has 3 perfectly responsive columns which I can’t seem to do for the life of me
  3. He has the same right sidebar on the homepage and every other page. I don’t understand how he can do this. I’ve literally looked at every single forum about these things now.

Is he doing all of this in Cornerstone or with regular blocks?!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for reaching out.

  1. I see, but that’s not a full-screen slider. It’s just a auto responsive slider, please check the other thread you open. I replied with the instruction on how to apply it directly to the template.

  2. Unfortunately, 3 columns is not really possible with page layout. You can only achieve with the 3rd column through the builder, but again, it may have different width since it’s based on percentage of current container. The site you have provided has the same layout which is content left and sidebar right, but he applied 2 columns within the content making it looks like 3 columns

  1. Just like #2, he has content left and sidebar right, then just created 2 columns within the content area. Please do that as well within the builder.

That site isn’t made from cornerstone, it appears to be all custom.

Hope this helps.
