Recent Posts Shortcode - Featured Image

I am using the recent posts shortcode in my post template and have customized the sizing to be square. However, the recent posts shortcode seems to only want to select a landscape image automatically created by wordpress when the original image is uploaded.

How do I get it to select the a thumbnail (square) image instead of a cropped portrait image?

thank you,
Austin

Please see the example on this page. It is the square image on the right in the row with two square images. You can see that the image is sized to fit top to bottom, but it is grabbing a cropped version from my image library instead of a square version that would fit just fine.

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! The featured image in the recent post shortcode will always display the full image. It seems it displays a landscape mode because it is set to cover the whole container item. To override this setting and set the image to display the full square original images as you upload it, please add the following CSS code in the X > Launch > Theme Options > Global CSS (http://prntscr.com/evui3r)

.x-recent-posts .x-recent-posts-img {
    background-size: contain !important;
}

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.
