Q on WPML menu items + blog posts automatically changing title and slug

Dear team,

I have 2 questions relating to WPML. I installed and set english as mother language and indonesian and dutch as additional language. Did the whole set up for language switchers etc. Really really great integration!

https://www.girisunyata.org/ with /id for indonesian and /nl for dutch

BUT

  1. somehow some of the menu items changed on their own. I created pages for the secondary languages via pro editor and then click flag, copy existing page and then manually change each element or text and buttons etc. Works great. Then I changed the names and therefore slugs of each page, and syncronized the menu so it’s fully in the new language. All good. Now we have full indonesian pages, with indonesian slug / url, linked to the indonesian menu items. (which are mainly page names and for dropdown two custom links)

The page name then changed already two times (donasi back to donate for example) but then the slug / url still is girisunyata.org/id/donasi.

What could be causing this? I changed it back already by going to pages then quick edit, just the name changed so changed that back.

  1. What is the right way of creating ML blog posts. I now created an english post and then made a copy translation of it changing the title name and slug and assigned to a translated category as well. This worked fine. Then same thing happened, suddenly it changes back to english in title and slug url. ??? when I click on editing the post in indonesian it shows this:

This document is a duplicate of Coming Soon – Lives Changed and it is maintained by WPML.
Translate Independantly (button)
WPML will no longer synchronize this post with the original content.

Please advise if I’m doing something wrong and how to do it correctly so the names of pages and posts don’t keep changing.

Thank you in advance,
Darryl

Hi Darryl,

Thanks for reaching out.
We are really not sure about what exactly the issue you try to mention in point no.1, we have examined your website in all the available languages and it works perfectly. If you are still having the issue, please provide any video describing the problem to recognize.
On point no.2 can you please explain the steps to replicate the issue and please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Dear @tristup

Sorry, I did fix the names back to how it’s supposed to be so indeed you won’t see any issue now. The website just went live and people might visit it so that’s why.

But to clarify or simplify:

Q1. After creating pages in different languages. Including menu, page names and url. The page name changed back to English on its own.

Example: the Indonesian menu would suddenly show Donate instead of the translated Indonesian version Donasi. Without me doing anything to it - I believe.

Q2. Similar. but for blogposts. I created example blog posts. I copied them to the different languages. Including category, post title and url. The post title changed back to English.

Example: the posts linked to their respective languages suddenly become English again. Although the url and category remain translated.

This happened already three times. And I don’t know why.

If it’s still vague we’ll have to wait until it happens again then I can show you. But after fixing it thought you guys might have experienced this problem and it might be something I’m doing wrongly at my end. In translating the pages / posts or renaming them.

Thank you again,
Darryl

Hi Darryl,

Please make a screenshot or video when it happen next time, and try to describe the steps which leads to that issue. So we can replicate the issue at our end.

Thanks
