Pushing a softaculous staging site to live: Cornerstone help please!

Hello, I did a search in the forum but I can’t find an answer to this particular question.

I have a client who has created a brand new website using a softaculous staging environment I set up for them for a subdomain of the main URL, we are almost ready to launch and I am trying to predict any issues that might arise.

I understand that softaculous deals with URL updates of things like pages automatically when you push to live. I have also instructed my client to only use /page/ rather than domain.com/page/ in any hyperlinks they have created.

My question is this: Will cornerstone resource URLs (things like images) be automatically updated when I publish using softaculous? Or will I need to either do a manual update of each page or do a find and replace within the database? I am assuming there will be no immediate issue as the images should be sourced from the subdomain, which will still be live - but obviously this is an extra hurdle I would rather avoid.

If anyone has a guide on how to properly publish softaculous staging sites using X Theme, that would be great.

Many thanks for any help.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for writing in! To properly migrate the site to the live domain URL, please check out this documentation:

If the URLs still has the old staging site URL, you may need to install Better Search and Replace plugin. You can search for the old staging URL and replace it with the new one.

We would love to know if this has worked for you. Thank you.

Hello @ruenel, thank you for your speedy response.

I am aware of that guide as the standard way to migrate, however my setup is rather more specific and has been done in a way that should remove the need for the moving of the database and site files. If I could explain my setup in a little more detail, perhaps you could be more specific with any info you may have. Considering I could not find any info on the forum already and that this is a popular tool for staging websites, it would be great for other X users to also have this info.

My specific question is: Will I need to do a search and replace, and/or manually update things like images created with Cornerstone? I am trying to make this move as seamless as possible as it’s for a very important client of mine.

If you are not aware of how the softaculous staging setup works, please do let me know as I would rather trial this method myself as it’s an incredibly useful way to stage websites and intend on using it in the future.

Thank you for your help.

Hello Mark,

Softaculous staging is really great. Since it will overwrite the database, it should have no problem. If in case some images or links still points to the staging URL, that is the only time that you need to do a search and replace process.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

Hi @ruenel,

I thought I would let you know this worked flawlessly. I would recommend this method to anyone who has it available to them in Cpanel if you are creating a staging environment and have access to a subdomain. It is far easier than any other method I have ever tried.

Thank you for the information Mark.
