Problems with part of API Key disappearing when connecting Mailchimp

I am a total newbie here, but am getting a lot of help out of the Docs. I am trying to connect Mailchimp – following directions and when I get to copying and pasting API key in, some of the code doesn’t stay. They are there but when I update they disappear and, of course, Mailchimp doesn’t like that.

Here is what disappears: script id=“mcjs” – and I get a msg from Mailchimp that says. “We are able to reach your site but we can’t find the mc.js script.”

But my website says "Your site is now connected to your MailChimp account.

What am I doing wrong?

I have logged in and tested your email subscription form. I cannot replicate any issue.
It accepted my submission as shown here:

And when re enter the details, I got this:

The issue you have encountered maybe just a caching issue. So you know, before I have tested the site, I purge you site cache first.
