Hello guys,

is there a guide like how to translate a pro v2 site with WPML?
I cant find any option to translate a header or global block. How to do that?

thanks for your reply. But I dont speak from X, its a Pro site. And I dont see any options at the header builder to translate a header. So how to translate a header and a global block?

Hi Robert,

From WPML Settings you need to enable Pro Headers and Footers as a translatable post type first. When that is turned on you will see the language switched in the builders.

I think I found a bug: I try to translate a global block and click on the english flag (german is the first language) it appears the window “Translate. This Content does not have a Englisch translation. Start with a blank slate or choose an existing translation to begin with.”. So far so good, but if I click now on the button “Deutsch - COPY EXISTING” it appears “Translation created” or something like this but there is not a single section created.

Edit… I think I found one more bug: If I edit a page I can switch between german and english and the content changes but the global blocks stay in german, see screen:

Everything is translated but two global blocks (its the same) are still german. Scroll to “Sauna Nights” there are two big green bars “Lernen Sie uns kennen” who does not get translated.

Hi there,

The first one is the one which we have a bug report on the issue tracker. If you translate a page and then change the original page the translated page resets.

The second one is because of the way Global Block work. You can not translate a Global Block as it is controlled from a central place and it changes on all other sections of the website.

You will need to create a separate Global Block for the other language and select that Global Block in the translated page.

thank you for your answer.

To the first one: Okay.

To the second one: Alright, but then you should probably change something cause this is not clear. Every object (header, footer, content) I can translate directly but global blocks not. I got no info about this but have the option to translate a global block. Just a UX-thing :slight_smile:
I will copy and translate every block seperatly.

Hello Robert,

Please keep in mind that Global Blocks is a custom post type. To translate this with WPML, you will need to enable it first. Please do the following:

  • Navigate to WPML -> Translation Management and click on the Multilingual Content Setup tab and scroll down to the Custom Posts section.
  • Set the Global Blocks to be translated.

For more information, please check this article because you can use this as a guide.

thanks for your reply but I know this already and enabled it. But now I am lost… First Christopher tells me I cant use translated global blocks and now you tell me I have to enable it first. Whats right now??

My problem is that I cant use my translated global blocks cause they stay in german (first language).

If I cant use translated global blocks as said by Christopher why I should use WPML and translate them??? :thinking:

Hey Robert,

Global blocks is a custom post type just like the header and footer. Alex mentioned in his reply that “From WPML Settings you need to enable Pro Headers and Footers as a translatable post type first. When that is turned on you will see the language switched in the builders.” If only I can check your settings and see if you can also enable translation for Global blocks then we can ignore what Christopher has mentioned that you cannot use it. If there is a setting to enable the translation for global blocks then, somehow, you can use Global block. Would you mind providing us some access to your site?

Hey Robert,

Sorry for the confusion. I created a test global block and test page in your site so I could experience the issue. What I found is, though you could translate a Global Block, it will not automatically switch when you put it in a page so the answer to this is you should create separate global blocks per language. I’ll post this in our issue tracker so our development team could test this case and tell us if this is a bug or intentional and they might provide some improvements or a fix in a future release.
