Pro theme on WP multisite - differentiate theme between sites?

Hi, I’m a longtime X/Pro user but am looking at possibly using it with a WP multisite installation for the first time. I understand that with multisites, themes are installed on the network level, not individually per network site.

I’m trying to understand whether I’ll be able to allow each networked site that uses Pro to be styled independently from one another.

To what degree is this possible with Pro on multisite, if there is really only one installation of Pro at the network level? For example, is it possible for different sites to use different stacks? What about other Global options, Color palettes, Font palettes and configurations, etc.?

Or is this a pipe dream and I need to accept that on multisite, the networked sites that use Pro will all have the share the same set of Globals?

Hey @83steps,

Thanks for reaching out!

Yes, you can style each site independently in a WordPress multisite setup with Pro, even though the theme is installed at the network level. Here’s a breakdown of how this works and what you can customize per site:

What Can Be Customized Per Site?

  • Stacks – Each site can use a different stack.
  • Global Options – Each site gets its own set of global options.
  • Color Palettes & Font Palettes – These are site-specific.
  • Cornerstone & Header/Footer Builder settings – Configurations are unique to each site.
  • Custom CSS/JS – These are stored separately per site.

What is Shared Across Sites?

  • Theme Files & Updates – Since Pro is installed at the network level, updates apply to all sites.
  • Custom Code in the Theme’s Files – If you edit functions.php or other theme files, those changes affect all sites.
  • Shared Plugins & Licensing – If you activate plugins at the network level, they apply to all sites (unless allowed per site).

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much, Marc. A follow-up question: I converted the site (where Pro was already installed and activated) to a multisite and I’ve added the first subsite for a locale: /en.

So I have two sites in the multisite network so far:
Network - Pro is installed and network-activated
{rootdomain.com} - Pro is present and validated (this was the existing site before I converted to multisite)
{rootdomain.com}/en - Pro is present but not validated

Do I just ignore the validation message on the /en subsite and carry on, because plugin updates will still install at the network level where it is validated?

Hey @83steps,

Yes, you can ignore the validation in the subsite (subfolder) because it actually just uses the same theme files.

Thanks, Christian. One problem, though, is that on the subsite, I can’t use design cloud to import sites, templates, etc., nor can I use any of the extensions that come with Pro, because both of these sections on the Pro dashboard are locked, because the subsite doesn’t think that Pro is validated. Any input on this?

Hey @83steps,

In terms of getting templates, you’ll need to validate the subsite. It is allowed since you’re using a sub-folder multisite setup. I’ve just tested it and it works.
