Since the Icon layout is unusable due to the sidebar and its lack of mobile responsiveness, can someone please tell me how disable/get rid of the tag cloud? I especially loathe how they appear on the top of the sidebar.

You can manage the widgets that appears in your sidebar by going to Appearance > Widgets. And if ever you do not want to display any sidebar, please go to X > Theme Options > Layout & Design > Content Layout and select Fullwidth.
