Pro Elements not loading when dragged to page

Hi there,

I’m trying to find out what is causing the never-ending spinning wheel in CS elements after these being dragged to the page and was hoping you could help me out.

I can replicate the issue every single time. I can add 4 elements to a specific page and when I try to add the 5th one, the spinning wheel for the element shows up and the page functionality breaks (meaning I can’t save or add more elements).

I’ve increased mem limit, checked for plugin conflicts, cleared transients, reset the .htaccess file and the issue still persists.

I’ve created a staging environment on another host and I can not replicate the issue. The only two things that I can think of that differ from one environment to another is the .htaccess file (hence the reset mentioned before) and, of course, the host itself.

This only started happening with the recent Pro updates, where the header elements were introduced in the content editor.

If you have any suggestions on what I could do to get the CS elements working flawlessly with this live installation I would love to hear them. I really don’t know where to turn at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have a great day,

Andre.

Hey there,

I’ve done the steps you outlined to replicate the issue but there’s no issue on my end. To double check, I saved your home page as a template and created a test page and inserted the template then added 6 elements and again there’s no issue. Please clear your browser cache then test again. Also try in other browsers and incognito mode. Please see the secure note for details of my tests.

Thanks.

Hey Christian,

Thank you so much for helping me out. Now I’m even more clueless about what might be causing this. I’m hoping it’s a chrome extension, I’ll test this theory when I get to the office as well as perform your suggestions.
I was only aware of this because someone else alerted me, meaning the issue doesn’t occur only with me/my specs.
I’ll get back to you with more results, thanks again for your support.

Have a good day,

Andre.

You’re welcome. Let us know if the issue persists and if you have more information. That will help us troubleshoot.

Thanks.

Hi there!

So, I’ve done some more testing and would like to share that with you hoping to find a solution as the issue still persists on my end and other website admins.

I tested it on chrome’s incognito mode and was able to replicate the issue. Sometimes it crashes adding the 3rd element, sometimes it crashes adding the 6th element, but it always crashes.

Every single time CS stops working in chrome, there is a js error outputted in chrome’s console. Please check the video on the secure note.

The error is “Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘indexOf’ of undefined”.

I tested on Firefox and I could not replicate the issue. I was able to add as many elements as I wanted. It works flawlessly on Firefox.

Could you please let me know which browser you used on the screencast you shared? Also, do you have any idea what may be causing that js error that I can see on chrome’s console?

Any suggestions/ideas on what to test next are much appreciated. I would love to be able to continue editing this website using Chrome :slight_smile:

Thank you!

Hi There,

Upon investigating this issue, I see the following error on your console log.

Xfr request made by preview timed out

Could you please increasing your PHP max execution time to 300 and test this issue again?

If you have server access, you can directly edit PHP.INI file or some hosts allow to change this within web hosting control panel or even you can directly contact hosting support.

Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi there,

Thank you for stepping in, @mldarshana. I did as you suggested and increased max_execution_time to 300 but the results are the same.

Everything works perfectly in Firefox and Safari but not in Chrome. Every single time I try to add multiple elements to a page the whole page crashes and I need to close that tab in order to continue to work on the website. Every time I get the error Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'indexOf' of undefined in Chrome’s console.

This happens on multiple machines, both in normal and incognito mode with no cache or cookies interfering.

Summing up what’s been done to troubleshoot this:

  • Plugin Conflicts;
  • wp_memory_limit increase;
  • disable and clear all cache systems;
  • increase max_execution_time;
  • create a fresh .htaccess;
  • cleared transients;

The error only occurs in Chrome, incognito or not.

I’m really clueless regarding what may be causing this so any further help is much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Andre.

Hey Andre,

I have logged in and tested Cornerstone in Chrome. The same with @Christian, I did not see any errors in your homepage. I can drag elements and it displays in the preview area. Please check out my screenshot: http://prntscr.com/hb52n2

I can confirmed that I experienced the same issue in your staging url. I am seeing the error and no section elements in the preview area. This is my screenshot: http://prntscr.com/hb54dl

One thing I noticed though. Both of your live site and staging url is on different hosting provider. The staging url is using SiteGround which you maybe experiencing caching. Could you please clear the site cache or temporarily disable the supercacher in your hosting panel? The SuperCacher is developed by SiteGround exclusively for their customers. It increases the number of hits a site can handle and boosts the website loading speed. The SuperCacher includes 4 different caching options for maximum optimization of your websites. You can access the tool by clicking on the SuperCacher icon in your cPanel.

For more information about this, please check it out here: https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/supercacher/supercacher_intro.htm

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. I can see in your screenshot that you only added one element but the problem only occurs when 3 or more elements are added. So could you please try again but this time try adding multiple elements, let’s say 5 elements? That’s when the issue happens and it only happens with Chrome.

The staging site has no issues, the problem is with the live site.

I’m attaching 2 images, one showing the crash after trying to add the 4th element and the other one adding the 5th element.

Thank you for your help

Hi There,

Would you mind switching to parent pro theme and see if that resolves the issue? As your site is trying to load this “not found/failed” resources from your child theme (https://image.prntscr.com/image/9mb59fIRSlqJMyUunnxpow.png).

Another, issue that I am constantly seeing on your live site but not on the staging is with regards to this (https://prnt.sc/hegq6f). I even saw some “Mixed Content” issue on your store page, that means your site is still trying to load some assets from an http:// protocol. Would you mind reinstalling your SSL certificate and use a plugin like (WP Force SSL) to force your site to load the assets from secured protocol (htps://).

On other note; your X – Email Forms (MailChimp) plugin is outdated (1.1.2), please update it to the latest version.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!
