I have 3 types of posts

  1. Chapters -
  2. Subchapters - they are part of Chapters but they could be a custom post type
  3. Case study

Any advice on how to approach setting this?

You can use the Custom Post Type UI plugin to create the custom post types. Be advised that this is a 3rd party plugin and beyond the scope of our support already. You may need to ask for further assistance in using this plugin from its developers.
