Post Page in Skeleton Mode after 5.1.1 Update

Hi,

We just recently updated to 5.1.1 and since then whenever we try to make a new Post, Cornerstone is unable to be displayed in Preview Mode and is basically constrained to editing on Skeleton Mode.

A few observations:

  • the error that we get is "Uh oh! A suitable content area for the live preview couldn’t be identified. Switching to Skeleton Mode
  • the same seems to be true with our homepage whenever we go to Cornerstone to try and edit it, it is also stuck at Skeleton mode
  • besides the homepage, all other Pages seem to be working as per normal when we edit it with Cornerstone
  • when creating a new Post (after the update), besides being constrained to Skeleton Mode, the content (sections, rows, columns, etc.) seems to be based on whatever is currently set as the site homepage. I’ve tested this by switching the homepage on Settings > Reading > Homepage with another page
  • when editing an existing Post that was published before the update, everything seems to be working as per normal and I can edit in Cornerstone Preview Mode

For reference, here is the error message I keep getting when making a new Post and editing it in Cornerstone:

Our objective is simply to regain back the capability to create and edit Posts in Cornerstone while in Preview Mode.

I hope that you can immediately respond to this query as we are trying to make a new post that needs to be published very soon.

Regards,

John

Hi,

Would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? Please provide following information:

Set it as Secure Note

  • Link to your site
  • WordPress Admin username / password
  • FTP credentials

All the best!

Hi,

I’ve provided login credentials. Please have a closer look to see what might be causing the problem and hopefully a fix for it. I look forward to your response.

Hi John,

You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi,

I tried enabling & disabling my current plugins except for WPML (which breaks my entire site if I disable or update it, but that is another problem). I’ve tried disabling and checking every other plugin besides WPML and the problem still persists.

The thing is I have two websites with the X-Theme and both have very identical configurations with the X-Theme (and even WPML). Site A (which is this one, X version 5.1.1) is restricted to skeleton mode for editing new and drafts for both pages and posts. Site B (X version 4.6.4) is able to edit everything in cornerstone preview mode for both pages and posts.

I did find a workaround, albeit a very troublesome one. It seems that the Skeleton Mode issue only persists when the status of either a Post or Page is new or draft. If I publish it, I can edit with Cornerstone in Preview Mode and can freely switch between that and Skeleton mode.

Is this a bug, a problem that’s specific to our site only, or are we doing anything wrong? Your assistance is very much appreciated on this matter.

Hi There,

The codes should work, try :

.x-navbar-fixed-top-active .x-navbar .desktop .x-nav > li > a > span {
    border: 0 !important;
}

If that does not work, you may have a syntax mistake on your css above it, please check.

If you cannot find please provide your login credentials so we can take a closer look.

Thank you

Hi,

I cannot find where to put this. Your assistance is much appreciated.

Please find login credentials below.

Hello There,

To use the code, you must place it in the custom css in the theme options. Please add the following CSS code in the X > Launch > Theme Options > Global CSS (http://prntscr.com/evui3r).

Please let us know how it goes.

Tried this and still not working. Draft Posts & Pages still are stuck in Skeleton Mode unless I publish them privately first (with no content besides the page title) and then go back to edit them and then go to Cornerstone to do the edits. It’s a messy way of doing things so I hope we can find a fix.

Hello There,

We’d really like to take a closer look. Regretfully we still cannot access your site. It seems the given credentials is not working or invalid. Could you please double check it?

Thanks.

Hi There,

Kindest apologies, but can you try again with the credentials on the Secure Note?

Hi there,

I see this in the notice

WPML Update is Incomplete

You are running updated wpml-translation-management, but the following component is not updated:
sitepress-multilingual-cms
Your site will not work as it should in this configuration Please update all components which you are using. For WPML components you can receive updates from your WPML.org account or automatically, after you register WPML.

Could you try updating it first? I could do that but there is no backup, so please back it up before updating. The issue is caused by those plugins, I deactivated them for testing and the builder works on draft posts.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,

Thanks for the update. We have a backup of the website and we tried updating WPML to the latest version and whenever we do, it usually kills the entire website - every page becomes inaccessible / error page.

WPML did release a new update yesterday so we might go and give that a try to see if it doesn’t break the site. I will give an update once we get around to doing that hopefully within the week.

Yes, please update it and let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Hi,

We were able to find a fix that allowed us to update WPML without crashing the site. After WPML was updated to the latest version (3.8) we can now edit pages in Cornerstone outside of Skeleton Mode. Thanks for your assistance.

Glad it’s all sorted.

Cheers!
