Post grid does not filter correctly

Hello,

I created a blog page with a ‘post grid’ element from Visual Composer.
I also created a post category and set the page to only show this category.
nevertheless, the page shows all! categories.

The link to the page is http://fotospecialist.be/blog/
The website is at this moment under not hosted under the real domain name, so you’ll have to change your hosts file to access it and point it to the url :
83.217.74.158 fotospecialist.be

Regards,
Kurt

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Your login credentials is not working for us.

Please understand that when you assign a page as your Post Page, the blog index template will take over. Any addition or changes done to that page will be discarded. To better understand this, please check out this codex for a better explaination on how the Post page works. See the “Create a Blog Page” section in this article: https://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page#Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

Hope this helps.

Sorry,
the user is themex
Please try again.

I understand what you’re saying, but I didn’t change anything.
I just tried to apply filtering on the category of messages displayed in the blog page.
That should simply work.

Hello There,

Thanks for providing the correct username. I have logged in and just as I suspected, you have inserted the post grid on the page and it it is not displaying because you have assigned the page as your Post Page. You cannot use Post Grid or any content to any page that is assigned as Post Page. As explained in the codex, all contents will be ignored.

Hope this explains it briefly.

Hello Ruenel,

So, do I understand correctly that the only way to create a blog page insinde themes is to create a blank page and do nothing whatsoever?

If so, I have three important questions:
How can I decide what category is visible and what’s not on that page?
How can I decide the layout of the posts?
How can I set the number of columns on that page?

Please answer this asap, we are geting close to a launch date.
Thanks

Hello There,

Thanks for updating in!

do I understand correctly that the only way to create a blog page inside themes
is to create a blank page and do nothing whatsoever?
  • Yes you will have to create a page and assigned that page as your Post Page. Please switch to Twenty Seventeen themes if you want to try it out. Do the following if you want as what is explained in the codex
1.) Switch your theme with Twenty Seventeen theme
2.) Create a new page, add a title and maybe some page contents as well.
3.) Go to Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays an assigned the newly created page as the Posts Page.
4.) View the page and you will only see the the recent posts items and not your page contents.

The only thing being used in the page is the page slug and the title. The contents were ignored and replaced with dynamically generated post recent items.

1.) How can I decide what category is visible and what’s not on that page?
You can’t because by default, WordPress will display all the recent items regardless of the category. The blog index display the post items in chronological order. There is however a custom solution if you want to filter out or if you want to exclude a category in the blog index. Please check out these links:

2.) How can I decide the layout of the posts?

  • The layout was pre designed in the theme. For one stack that you use, you will have two option to display the blog index and that is using the standard or masonry. Please go to X > Launch > Options > Blog and select the “Style”.

3.) How can I set the number of columns on that page?

Hope this helps.
