Portfolio Filter not showing up

Hi there

The portfolio filter is not showing on our staging site. We currently have 4 portfolio categories that should show up in the filter, but they do not. Instead the filter just says “all”. Would you mind taking a look?

Kind Regards,
lypa

Hello Lypa,

Thanks for posting in! I have checked your site and i found out that you are using the X theme 7.2.3 with a much newer version of Cornerstone 5.0.6. They are not compatible. You should deactivate the Cornerstone and then delete it. You go to the X > Validation and install the bundled compatible Cornerstone version which is the Cornerstone 4.2.3.

You can check out the release notes here:

You can check all the latest changelog here:

Best Regards.

Hi Ruenel,

Ok, thank you for clearing this up, that’s very valuable information for me! So I see two options now for the future work on our site:

  1. Go back to the old version of Cornerstone and continue working on the site using the “old” technology (X theme 7.2.3 + Cornerstone 4.2.3) or

  2. Update the Theme and Plugins to the latest versions and then continue working on it

I am not yet sure if I want to risk the leap of version 2.

Do you think it is better to go back to Cornerstone 4.2.3 and work on the website in the old version? Or update both X-Theme and Cornerstone to the latest version? Or will this break the layout and I have to do everything from scratch since we are using a child theme?

Here is a previous topic of mine: Change hover style on thumbnail images - followup

It raised a similar question to me.

I am still trying to estimate the pros and cons – how big the risk of losing our site is with updating everything to the latest versions and how big the benefit is of having the latest version (being faster with development, having less safety risks etc.). Would you mind giving advice on this?

Thank you.
Lypa

Hey Lypa,

It would be best to update it to the latest version and fix any issue found. I also recommend do the updates in a staging area so that you can compare it with the live website.

Hope that helps.

Hello Marc

Thank you for helping. In which orer is it best to update?

  1. WordPress
  2. Theme
  3. Plugins

Or other?

Would you mind givig me a quick reminder with this?

Thank you,
Lypa

Hey Lypa,

If I am going to update a website, your order is correct.

  • First, you need to update the WordPress core version
  • Update themes to the latest version
  • Update the plugins to the latest version

Hope that helps.

Hey Marc

Ok, thank you.

Hi Ruenel

I have deactivated and deleted Cornerstone as advised by you above. Now I can not find the Cornerstone 4.2.3 in X > Validation. Would you mind taking a look? Thank you.

p.s.: I have not used Cornerstone yet. Just Shortcodes/text mode. Where is a good start/tutorial on how to use Cornerstone 4.2.3?

EDIT: Later this evening I found the Cornerstone 4.2.3 by accident in WP Bakery Module and installed it. Noticed, the filter categories are onl showing if they are actually used in posts :woman_facepalming: sorry my fault

Topic is solved. Thank you
