Portfolio display

Hi,

I am using the portfolio function to display media for my client. As you will see on the link attached when you go to the media pages you are shown 10 items. Is there any way of me being able to make this be 12?

Also when you click on to an item you are shown the page large with the arrows to scroll through other pages. But, you are also shown the thumbnails below them with the sharing links. Ideally I would like it if the thumbnails are not shown nor the sharing links, is this possible?

Regards,

Mark

Hi There,

On your Porfolio Page, click Edit Page.

On Wordpress classic backend editor, scroll down and you will be able to find the option to edit the number of items displayed(posts per page).

Hope it helps

Thanks for your reply. Going to that page, the page is called “media”, in the editor I notice that the layout is set as “Layout - Portfolio” and also that I have 4 columns selected and 24 items per page. Any changes I make don’t seem to appear.

Please, can you take a look, I will give login details in a secure message.

Hey Mark,

Your media page is actually a portfolio category page and not a page using the Layout - Portfolio template. There is a conflict here because your have a Media category and a page named Media. You need to rename one of them and also rename the slug. You might need to reset the permalinks after that.

To remove the images in your portfolio post, please remove them from the content area. They will still be available in the gallery.

Thanks.

I have reset the Media category to Media Appearances and also it’s slug to “media-appearances”. I have then reset the permalinks, following your guide. But it hasn’t made any difference.

I cleared both site cache and browser cache following.

I am getting very confused by the way this works. I have removed the content and I can see that the thumbnails below the main image is no longer displayed. How do I see the images that are being displayed via the gallery, all I can see on the portfolio page is the front cover featured image.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for clarifying.

You should not use the Archive page as your Portfolio page, the correct way of using is :

1- Create a new page.

2- On Wordpress classic backend editor, under the blue update button you will find > Page Attributes > Page Templates > Select Portfolio.

3- Scroll down and adjust the settings.

I have done it here for you, it is saved as a draft, you can rename the page and the slug and publish and use as your Portfolio page:

Hope it helps!

Thank you for doing that for me. There is something very strange going on. I viewed you draft page and all was fine, I then deleted the old Media page and renamed your new page to Media and also changed the slug. Then when I went to view the new page it was back exactly as the old one was as an archive page again.

I am most confused. Originally I set the page up as you have shown me and it was working, now for some reason it just keeps converting to an archive page when named Media.

Hey Mark,

I see you cleared cache but sometimes, it gets stuck because of aggressive caching. This isn’t an issue with X but rather a WordPress setup thing. Regretfully, in this case, since the previous solution didn’t solve the issue, you need to create a different page name. I created a portfolio test page and it works. It uses the Layout - Portfolio template (see Secure Note).

Regarding the gallery images, when you add them to the content using the Add Media button, what happens there is it gets attached to the page. That is the information the gallery gets. To better understand attaching images to a post, please see https://youtu.be/yH4m5JpwLzg

Thanks.

Hi Christian,

Thank you for your help in getting this site sorted. As I said earlier I originally designed the site and someone else took over it. They caused loads of issues on it and then left. I have been slowly rescuing the site. I think I am almost there now and mainly due to the help I have received from the X support team. Thanks again for your great support

Kind regards,

Mark

Glad we were able to help on-behalf of our colleagues

I have just discovered another issue in relation to this problem on checking the xml sitemap.

As you will see in the link supplied in the secure message, the x-portfolio-sitemap still points to the old media page, that now doesn’t exist.

How can I correct this so that it now points to the correct location, as the new x-portfolio is now called “press”. I have changed the slug to “press” in the customiser under the portfolio section but it doesn’t seem to have made a difference.

Solved the above myself so no worries

Something very strange is happening with this. I have now noticed that the new press portfolio page which was created to replace the previous media portfolio page is now acting exactly the same as the previous media page. In that this page is now displaying as an archive page also!

I have not done anything to change the page, as far as I am aware, after your creation of it other than renaming it as you asked me to do. The only thing I have done today is correct the slug used, so that it showed up correctly in my sitemap, via the customiser.

Please help me to work out what is causing this issue. Preferably without having to change names again.

Regards,

Mark

Hello There,

You are experiencing this issue because of the page slug and portfolio slug. They both share the same which is press. You will have to have the press for the page and press-item should be used for your portfolio item. For example;

http://example.com/press/
http://example.com/press-item/the-portfolio-jan-2018/

Please go to X > Launch > Options > Portfolio and set the custom url slug to “press-item” to resolve this issue.

Hope this helps.

Thank you that now makes complete sense and seems to be working fine. I wish that I had been told this earlier rather than going through the whole thing of changing from the previous media page name.

I have now changed things back to how they were originally with the page named Media and the portfolio slug named media-item and all is working. Got there in the end

Glad that you have managed to fix the issue.
