POLL: Which X Stacks Have You Used and Why?

I’m hoping this poll and it’s comments can help future users pick which stack(s) they should consider for future projects.

And follow up in the comments to describe your choice(s):

  • What type of project was it?
  • Which stack did you choose and why?
  • What type of customizations (if any) did you make?
  • Link to your project(s)

Which X Stacks have you used?

  • Integrity
  • Renew
  • Icon
  • Ethos

Good idea for a poll @aleminopuy. From what we’ve seen in the past, Integrity is the Stack of choice followed by Renew. Let’s see if the votes stack up that way!

Poor Icon hasn’t gotten any love yet.

I wonder how the results will shake out.

Ok you guys… I committed myself to Developing a site utilizing WordPress. I’m a Microsoft Partner and thus have been 100% .NET from day one.

With that said, I figured the best way to get me focused on building this WordPress site was to use my own personal domain, get it developed, get it up on the server, and done. Didn’t happen that way. I know asp, not php. I do MSSQL, not MySQL.

I was about to bail out and go back home to the .NET environment when all of a sudden I get an email from the folks at Themeco. Introducing Pro. What’s this all about.

Pro made me change my mind. Made me want to learn something again. It’s different from all the other WordPress stuff out there. I like it, so far, and think this will be a very good decision maker on everyone’s part.

Here we go.

@aleminopuy, There are some great looking Icon sites on our showcase if you’d like a couple ideas there.

@Sukola, Glad that Pro was able to change your mind!

I have used all stacks, and I still don’t have a favorite one to stick with, because each design has its mood that can be used with certain niches/industries.

For example:

Integrity

This stack is universal. An example where I have used it is http://www.outwardboundcroatia.com/en/. I guess I didn’t want to look too niche, because the target audience is very broad. I have tried other stacks, but simply I felt this one suits the site best.

Renew

Renew is modern and flat, and it is a versatile stack. For example, I have used it with http://www.dentagra.hr/, as it is for a company that works with high-tech devices, and providing CRM. Renew really suits this, but also a host of other industries. It is also a good base for heavy customization, so I have used it here too: http://www.brankavalcic.com/.
I have also used it with my latest project made for the government: https://www.discoverplitvice.com/. Because it doesn’t have strong personality, it helps the subject, UNESCO protected World Heritage - Plitvice Lakes National Park, to stand in the front row.

There are more projects where I have used Renew, so it is my most used stack. Not the favorite, just most used based on project needs.

Icon

Icon is underestimated. This great stack adds personality. It is minimal, allowing design and UX to come out to the spotlight. I have used it with http://www.mojemalozlato.com/en/, a gluten-free bakery. I really wanted to bring out the branding and personality of this business, and Icon was the best possible choice.

Ethos

Ethos is serious and graceful. I have used it on a corporate site that rivals local banks and other financial institutions, https://www.progreso.hr/. Also the blog layout of this stack is beautiful and functional, and that was very important for this site.

I usually know the stack I will use before even starting the project. But I still like to switch them in the earlier dev phase, to see how would a particular layout look like in each. Once I am confident that I’ll stick with a particular stack, then I start with the customization of various elements.

Would love a blank stack for Pro!

@thismakesmehappy It’s something we’re exploring although the original Stack concept was to be more opinionated designs with unique functionality. Having said that, there are some features in the works that could make this a possibility down the road.

I think a blank stack would be absolutely wonderful for Pro. I know other stacks are designed to get you going fast, but for some of my bigger projects it would be really nice to start off with a blank project so that I don’t need to override existing styling.

I’d love a bare bones stack with very minimal styling. If you do add one, please call it Skeleton stack :sunglasses:

Thanks Kyle. I think the stacks are a great starting point! But I upgraded to Pro to have more flexibility and a blank stack would give me all the awesomeness of Pro and save time by not having to override existing styles. TBH, I had X for two years and wasn’t too happy with how tied I was to the stacks, but I love what you guys have been doing and Pro is a wonderful tool for designers who don’t want to waste time with 100% custom coding.

Appreciate the feedback guys. This is in line with some other comments we’ve received. I’ll add it to my notes to discuss with the team, as I think this could be a great feature to explore once V2 Elements and the new Template Manager are live.

I have used them all and think they all are great for different looks and feel. Integrity and Ethos have been my primary go to stacks. I would agree with @thismakesmehappy and @neelhtaky a blank stack would be absolutly awesome.

Icon is my goto for personal blog but I guess its popularity has something to do with really bad design of sidebar, if it had normal style sidebar it would probably get more love.

I have used integrity for my site Misfit Media no specific reason, but it has been modified quite a bit to get the current look.

Pretty much always use Renew. Just fits my needs
