This is such a toss up because it truly matters on the business model. Your customers may not be anywhere near Facebook.

I would say Facebook because you can simotaneously post the ad to Fb and Instagram using the the same target audience. I tested this out with an ad and had a little success. I think my set target was too broad so I will try it again with a more narrowed base.

I’ve found custom audiences on Facebook to be incredibly effective when targeted correctly. One word of caution is to not change any part of the ad once it’s set as Facebook will reset the history (likes, comments, etc). Instead, duplicate the ad and create your changes then pause the original ad. That new ad will still be starting over but the old one will be available if you want to re-activate it in the future and still have the likes, comments, etc.

I agree…also think it greatly depends on the geographical market your advertising.

It really depends on your target group, and what you want to achieve.

IE. i work for MMA organization, and we have most success with our FB ads. That goes for most reach and conversions (website clicks ie). I’ve found that people don’t want to leave the Instagram that much as they do with FB.

And since our main target group is male 18-25 and fight fan…there is no use of Pinterest
We also use AdEspresso, so you can give it a try, and their academy and FB group has some good stuff.

LinkedIn for corporate B2B sales - nobody buys enterprise software via Facebook

@theotcspace, do you have any experience with B2B campaigns on LinkedIn? Would be very interested to know more about that as the extent of my experience with LinkedIn is deleting all the “we’ve got 50,000 jobs in your area” emails I get

I run a news website (www.theotcspace.com) and use DLVR.IT to post items onto my personal profile and company page. I used to be picky about who I connected to on LI but now have reached over 3,300 contacts. They see my updates from my website which sends them back to my content. Some is gated to generate leads, some not. We then run webinars and give away content in return for registration which my sponsors pay for. I haven’t paid to use LI, but I know that in the business space (banking) a huge number of people are there, and aren’t easily reachable via other means.

By blogging and posting regularly and requiring registration we now have around 4,400 registered people to which we can send direct email to advertise our sponsors products and services, plus we offer a free magazine.

For banking people, they seem to like consuming on LI and also commenting, but I don’t know of anywhere else which provides this community.

That’s a great insight, @theotcspace! It’s also interesting that a particular industry seems to almost prefer interacting through that channel. Great to keep in mind if your clients are in the B2B space.

I think it depends whether you are using A plugin or B plugin.

I think the best social media platform for lead generation is Facebook. The reason for that is Facebook is known as a social media which is the most popular, most of people use Facebook to read news and update information, so this is an useful tool to business approach the customers.

As a consultant/designer/developer I’ve found almost zero value in any social media ads for our services mostly due to the nature of my business offering and the price point of our solutions. The majority of our solutions start in the $6k range and extend from there so few on Social Media are looking for what we offer when they are looking at cat videos and posting photos of their most recent meal. We did have some success when we offered consulting to less experienced designers/developers focused on lead generation, pricing and value based selling. It would be a very profitable niche to target but not generally where we focus our consulting efforts.

Running campaigns for our clients across social, especially in the B2C space, has proven valuable for most with a clear benefit on FB vs other platforms. Targeting is key as others here have already discussed. Our best client successes however are still with hyper local targeting, direct mail and other client engagement tactics.

At the last agency I ran we had decent success when using Twitter for a few projects but that was with Sitecore’s CMS and had a wider catchment area. Picked up 3 projects over $100k each so social can certainly capture attention that would otherwise not allow you to get found easily.

Anyone have LinkedIn specific successes?

LinkedIn above all others. As others have menitoned for business to business it makes the most sense. Though the paid advertising options on Facebook really let you target a set audience which is also a worth while activity. We also have a presence on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
