Please add domain Text Domain: pro_child to child theme style.css

Hi!

I’ve had major issues on many sites trying to localize strings with WPML. WPML support now told me that Pro child theme lacks a text domain in the style.css:

Text Domain: pro_child

Could you please add that line to the child theme files so that we don’t have to remember to manually add it in the future?

Yes, I will add this to our issue tracker as a feature request so that our developers will be aware of it. We don’t have an estimated time when these feature requests will be added in the child themes but it’s rest assured that they will know about the feature request.

I’m just following up on this feature request. The included child theme is meant as a starting point for your own customizations. We would actually prefer not to use a Themeco specific text domain for the child theme. The best way to use a child theme is to update the folder name, and the name in the child theme to match the site you are working with. At this point you could also add your own text domain.

Hi!

Well, I’ve been having this really confusing issue with translating the child theme with WPML for years. It seems like it would have saved me several days of work if I would have known to add a text domain to the child file earlier.

I’m just trying to help out all the people who still have this problem because they are unaware of it, just like I was. Using a child theme may be easy for you, but it is quite confusing in the beginning, man.

What do you mean about updating the child’s folder name? If pro-child is not a good name, what do you suggest? Are you also suggesting to change the name of the child theme - to what? I wish there were some clear documentation on this stuff as I’m SURELY not the only designer not getting this secret dev memo on how to fix them.

What my colleague said about changing the child theme name is intended for some branding. Some of the developers or clients want to change the child theme name to their respective names.
