Photo effect in Postmodern Pixel layout?

Hi there!

I like the way the featured image has a special effect in your Postmodern Pixel layout on Design Cloud. I’ve downloaded it, to attempt to figure out how to use this effect elsewhere. I haven’t been successful.

Speaking generally (not specifc to that downloadable layout) could you tell me what settings/elements are being used to accomplish those blocks (pixels?) on the upper right hand corner of the featured image? I’d like to get to know those options, and be able to use them in other creative ways.

Are you referring to this pixels?

It is actually a Div element and a Grid element. Each cell of the grid has a different background colors to mimic the pixels.
