Permalinks and 404 Error on Pro

Hi,

For some reason I am getting " Error 404 - Not Found" when trying to open Pro.

I recently made these changes, which may be the reason:

  • SSL was not activate on the entire network, and I activated it. After doing this, I started getting errors while creating new pages (The error was: “Publishing failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.”).
  • To fix this problem, I switched the permalinks to “Plain” and it solved the problem, however, I leaned that this will create a SEO problem. Then, I installed the WP Classic editor, and it solved the problem, and switch the permalinks to “Post name,” but this time when I try to edit content with Pro, I am getting the 404 Error

I would greatly appreciate if you can help.

Hi Gunes,

As the URLs are stored in the database when you add them using the Pro content builder I think you missed a step while moving your website from none-SSL mode to SSL.

Please kindly make sure that you have a complete backup of your website or ask your hosting service provider to create a reliable one for you so you will be able to restore in case anything goes wrong.

Then, please kindly install the Search and Replace WordPress plugin. The way it works is to change all instances of a search word in the database. For more information:

Use that plugin to replace all the instances of http:// to https:// on your website database.

Finally, please kindly go to Settings > Permalinks, set it to post name, and save. If you already have the option set to post name, do click the save again as it will flush the permalink cache.

Thank you.

Christopher, Thank you you much for the detailed information. The problem was with the htaccess file, I reverted it back. I followed the steps you described and found some http pages though. Thanks so much again!

You’re welcome. Glad we’re able to help.
