When I paste my code for the license it does not recognize the code

Just to clarify, you cannot use the X theme license code to validate the Cornerstone plugin. The X theme itself needs to be activated first.
It sounds like you’re trying to update both the X theme and Cornerstone. We strongly recommend setting up a staging site first. This allows you to perform the updates and run any necessary troubleshooting in a safe environment. Once everything is working smoothly with the new updates, you can then push the changes to your live site.
