Page width, help needed

Hi, at the moment my page is running full width and I would like to achieve a design like in the screenshot. I simply can’t find the right switch to install this design with a background and Margin (or would it be padding?) - could you please give me a hint?
Thanks a lot
Karen

Hi Karen,

Thanks for reaching out.

Is that a post or page, or is it created within the builder? I can’t find a sample post that resembles it from your sites. For example, if it’s created in the builder, the padding should be okay as it has no effect with the background image, the margin does. You can also utilize the row’s container’s option to limit the width without affecting it’s background.

If your background is set in the column, then yes, section and row padding could affect it as well.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,
thanks for you answer. The screenshot is from this page: https://www.spektrum.de/news/warum-wir-manchmal-unvernuenftig-sind/1737172
And I would love to adjust the design from my own page https://www.textgold.de/ghostwriter/
So if I got you right, I should use the setup shown in your image, switch off “global container”, set the background colour to “greyish” and it will work?
Thanks
Karen

Hi Karen,

Now that you mentioned about the layout, perhaps you’re referring to box layout. Because in comparison, the image is already full-width and the content is on the center. The difference is just the boxed layout, if yes, you can do that in Theme Options > Layout and Design > Site Layout, and set it to Boxed.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,
great! That was exactly what I was trying to achieve (and it was easy of course). The only thing I can’t really manage is the width of the background on both sides. I would like to have the background a little wider. Where would that control be…?
Thank you so much
Karen

Hello Karen,

Once you have set your site layout to “Boxed”, the background images of the sections will display within the bound of the box layout with the maximum width you have set in X > Theme Options > Layout and Design > Site Max Width. In your case, since you selected the Boxed layout, your background images will display up to 1200 px only. If you want to display more or display the background images as fullwidth, from one edge to the right edge of the browser, select “Fullwidth” instead of Boxed. You just have to limit the contents of the sections within the global container as pointed out by @Rad in his first response.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi Ruenel,
I got all that now, set everything like you proposed and installed a background pattern. No success, unfortunately. I think the reason why I can’t get the background working properly is that I simply don’t have this switch “global container” shown in Rads Screenshot… only “inner container”.
This is what I can setup in a Row:

I’d be extremely glad for a hint…
Thanks, Karen

Hey Karen,

That’s the interface of the Classic Row and it does not have the Global Container option. The Global Container option is a feature of the New Row. For more details about the New Row, please check out the links below:

You need to rebuild the section to use the new row. Enable the new under Preferences > Content Layout Element.

Hope that helps.

Hey Christian,
thank you very much! Of course the “classic” row caused the problem. I managed to convert everything you wrote, even it that means to rebuild the whole page section by section. Looks great now!
Have a nice day
thanks for helping!
Karen

You’re more than welcome, glad we could help.

Cheers!
