Page created using Cornerstone no longer editable

I created several pages through Cornerstone in a dev environment. Once the site was published live, I lost the ability to edit certain pages with Cornerstone. When I open the standard page editor, the html code / Cornerstone shortcodes are displayed in the “text” view, and when I attempt to the edit the pages in Cornerstone, the content is displayed as blank.

What is the process to fix this problem? It seems as if it might be somehow related to SSL, as it occurred on pages that had HTTPS turned off (I was running into errors switching from backend to frontend on some pages with HTTPS enabled).

Please make sure that you are using the most recent version of X Theme and Cornerstone. After that under Settings > General make sure that WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) includes HTTPS in URL if you are using SSL.

In case problem is still there, please share website login details in secure note for us to take a closer look.

Hello There,

I have logged in and checked all your settings. Every seems correct. When I edit your homepage, I can load it in Cornerstone. The problem with your homepage is that you have edited the page outside of Cornerstone. When you edit it, you will be seeing this: http://prntscr.com/jv4pmd instead of the Cornerstone tab. Please keep in mind that you are not supposed to switch between editors.

The Shopnow page on the other is not and will not be editable with Cornerstone. This page has been assigned as your Shop page. WooCommerce template will take over this page and display the product items. This is why you are not seeing any “Edit in Cornerstone” link.

I’m aware regarding not switching between editors. Being blocked out happened when switching to SSL and then after visiting the page editor.

Is there any way to restore the homepage content to be edited by Cornerstone again? I’d prefer to not have to rebuild the entire homepage from scratch again.

Hi There,

If its true that you edited the page outside of Cornerstone, then the only way to edit it back in Cornerstone is to restore the site to the previous date (before you edit it outside cornerstone), or to rebuild the page again in Cornerstone.

Restoring the page back to before the error didn’t alleviate the problem.

Is rebuilding the entire page from scratch really the only option?

If so, it seems that I can’t even do so, as I am missing some of the basic abilities in Cornerstone, like using images for section backgrounds. I can write CSS to do so, but that defeats the purpose of having Cornerstone in the first place.

If you have a previous backup, you can try restoring it or you will have to re-create those pages.

With the new update, you will have to enable Advanced Mode through Cornerstone settings. You need to head over to X -> Cornerstone and then access Cornerstone settings as below.

Then you will see Advanced Mode option under Preferences. Once you save the changes, you will see advanced options.
