With only X and Buddypress active, the orderby for member profiles doesn’t work it just defaults to last active.
Switch to twenty seventeen and it works.
Deleting index.php in \wp-content\themes\x\buddypress\members is a workaround but obviously causing the styling to go out of wack with the rest of the site.
