Opening posts content inside Essential Grid Lightbox - Not working on recent version

Ok, so I’ve had this working on on previous versions of Essential Grid and it works on an old version still: Current SIte where post content inside light box still works

Since updating Essential grid on a development version of the same site, I’m no longer able to get this to work with the error message ‘The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later’ being returned.

I understand that all the custom Ajax code that used to be required for this isn’t necessary and was provided with a simple wlakthrough by Themepunch: Video walkthrough

The method described in the vidoe walkthrough now no longer works either. So I’m hoping someone can help because Theempunch don’t even have any documentation on opening post content inside a lightbox (modal window).

I don’t know if the fact that it is a custom post type or that the content is creaued in Cornerstone makes any difference (it never used to and did work at one time as shown in the link above).

Hey @sguilliard,

When I open the lightbox, I see a 403 forbidden error with Admin Ajax. This is server related so please contact the staging server admin to know why the GET request in the secure note is forbidden.

In your live site, there’s a chance that this will not happen so I’d recommend that you backup your live site and test the update there. If the issue will happen there also, you can revert from the backup.

I tested adding a post using just the WordPress editor and still the issue persists so this is not because the content was built with Cornerstone.

I’m actually getting a 404 error (which also doesn’t make sense). It’s on the same server as the live website (which works) so that doens’t make any sense either…

There could be something missing or misconfigured. Could you please give us access to your old or live site so that we can compare the settings in the staging and the live one?

I’ll add login details for both sites to the secure noete on this reply (on the staging site I’ve even been disabling all plugins and switching the theme to TwentyNineteen without any success…)

Hello @sguilliard,

I have logged in and I found out that you have a highly customize grid. You are using AJAX script to load the post content and that you edited the grid skin in order to load the post content through AJAX.

AJAX Grid Settings:

Grid Skin Read More button actions:

Please apply the changes you have made to the staging site so that it will work the same way as your live site did.

The Ajax method doesn’t work anymore on newer versions of ESG. The latest version(s) should just require the lightbox link as demonstrated in the Video Walkthrough I was sent by Themepunch (posted in an earlier message above)

I investigated the issue but unfortunately was not able to figure it out. I know that the post light/ajax still works on the current latest version (2.3.2).

Would you mind switching to parent X theme and see if that works, use the blog posts for this test, you can duplicate your grid and change the source post type to Post. If that works then you know the issue is in your customization.
