Opening only 1st item in an Accordion with Loopers

I have successfully implemented an Accordion element whose items are driven by a range looper (basically the years between now and 2006). (A subsequent looper within the item pulls in post content for that specific year to be displayed.)

I would like to have only the first item open on page load, but since the item is replicated from a single instance, all the items are then opened.

Is there an easy way to only open the first item? I can see in inspector the changes that occur with an open, but I am hoping for an easier way to make it work. (Twig would be fun here maybe?)

The only other workaround I can think of so far is to have two accordions, with the first limited to the first looper result (and set to open) and the second accordion consuming the rest of the looper (set to closed).

Thoughts?
