Open Graph Meta Tags

in Summary - OPEN GRAPH meta tags are properly installed on the website, however when Facebook pulls in any link it only sees the Revolution Sliders meta tags and they are taking over the importing to FB. We are using YOAST SEO, we turned off the THEME Open Graph override and cleared the site cache. How do we fix this?

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Please make sure that you have assign featured images for pages or posts because Yoast SEO will be using the featured image. And if possible, you can set a default image in Yoast SEO. Please check out these links:

Hope this helps. Kindly let us know.

I do have featured images on posts and it still doesn’t work–http://ilc.com/tech-that-tuesday-vl3000-belt-tension/ for example has a featured image and when I copy the link and post to facebook it shows no preview–just says “page not found”.

Hi There,

if you’re using YOAST SEO, you will have the SEO settings just below the page editor.

Make sure you always fetch new scrape information here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/

Hope it helps, Cheers!

So in order for my post’s title to automatically post to Facebook when i copy and paste it to Facebook, i’d have to manually re-enter the post’s title into Yoast’s settings area on each post? That seems a little redundant…

Sorry for the confusion. Since you’re using Yoast SEO’s open graph, please contact their support to learn the proper setup. We’re sorry but we do not have support for third party plugins.

X has nothing to do with the Open Graph setup in your site since the Open Graph option is turned off.

Thank you for understanding.

It’s not YOAST, it’s the slider.

Hi There,

Based on your last comment I am not sure if you still need help.

In case you do, please let us know.

Thank you

Yes, I still need help. Yoast is not the issue, the slider is. Please let me know how to move forward with fixing the issue regarding the slider and open graph meta tags.

Hi there,

I checked the page you sent us regarding the open graph settings and checked the front end code and here is what we see:

The code links to this image: http://ilc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Tech-that-Tuesday.jpg

So regarding what the theme or your website can do it is showing the image as the Open GRaph image. There is nothing more we can do and it is up to Facebook to retreive that information or not from now on.

Thank you for your understanding.

Is there a service I can pay for to open a ticket to get this problem addressed?

Hello There,

At the moment, we do not have that kind of service. This is something we had in mind in the future. By the way, I have investigated further with your site and can confirm that Facebook indeed cannot find the page. You can check this Facebook Debugger here:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/?q=http%3A%2F%2Filc.com%2Ftech-that-tuesday-vl3000-belt-tension%2F

This issue could be because of the caching issue. Since you have installed a caching plugin WP Super Cache, please clear your plugin cache before testing your site. This can cause the changes to not take place on the front end. It will eventually show up when the cache regenerates, but it’s not ideal if you’re looking to see your changes immediately.

After clearing the cache if it still has the issue, may we temporarily disable the WP Super Cache and test the site again?

Please let us know how it goes.

Cleared the cache–still the same issue. Please see attached screenshots.

Please look at these screenshot.

As you can see, all of the Open Graph tags come from Yoast SEO. I don’t see a tag coming from Slider Revolution. Have you tried deactivating Slider Revolution to see if it really is the cause of the issue?

Since you’re using Yoast SEO and not X Open Graph, please contact Yoast SEO support.

Thank you.
