No grid support for Portfolio Items

Hello, I recently upgraded my version of Pro, afterwards my principal plugins.

I noticed that the Essential Grid (formerly functional) no longer shows up on the page.
The individual grid within the EG plugin editor is still there, is set up with the same Portfolio/Categories content, but loads no preview.
I tried to create a new essential grid with the same content and structure (not copy, from scratch), and it has the same problem.
I tried to set up a ‘The Grid’ grid using the same Portfolio Items, hoping to resolve the problem by publishing The Grid instead of Essential Grid. This new grid is also ‘corrupt’, it saves, but it does not display a preview with the message: “No post was found with your display settings. You should verify if you have any posts inside the current selected post types and if the meta key filter is not too restrictive”

I verified that the portfolio items are still correctly existing and I have the right post types selected.

Is it a problem with corrupt portfolio items? Meta key filter (and how to fix that??)? Or a buggy Pro-Plugin interface?

Anyone else have this issue or know how to help?

Hi Robert,

Thank you for writing in, based on what I’ve seen from other users updating, disappearing images can be resolves with the folllowing:

• Make sure both X and Cornerstone (or Pro) are updated to the latest version.
• Disable Smush lazy loading if you’re using that plugin. or any plugin with lazy loading.
• Clear any caching plugins you may be using and your browser cache.

If the issue persists, please do testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Follow-up: The plug-in check identified WPML as the culprit. Gasp, horror!

Thankfully WPML is a world-class app with great support infrastructure and it didn’t take long to find some documentation regarding errors with portfolios. Others had written-in with similar problems, and most of the solutions involve going deep into the string Translation and post-type translation settings and making sure that different slugs are set up for the relevant post-types and custom term metas.

Interestingly, The Grid started working again almost immediately. Essential Grid was still a “no-show” even after I changed the WPML settings to such a degree that the Grid had no problem displaying portfolio items. I don’t remember exactly which change “made the difference” so that Essential Grid functions correctly, but when I setup different slugs in different languages for Grid Builder (vc_grid_item) and refreshed the page, it all worked as previously.

While the ticket is still open, I’m interested to hear from the forum your thoughts about The Grid v. Essential Grid.

Which do you prefer, and why? Are there any fundamental differences that make one a better choice over the other?

I’m using Essential Grid, mostly because my content looked better “out of the box”, but also because it seemed a bit more user friendly when I first got started building the page.

Glad this is now sorted out for you. Thank you for sharing the root cause of the issue.

Regarding your question, both are really good plugins. As a personal choice, I am more inclined to use Essential Grid for it’s skin editor. For more discussion between the two plugins, please check this thread. Hope this helps.
