New updates are resource intensive

Ever since the recent updates, theme X appears to be consuming a lot of resources on the server. A simple update of text, for example, seems to consume 1 MB/s of I/O and 1 GB of memory usage. This results in an inability to work on the relevant site.
(this happens despite following suggestions on https://theme.co/docs/how-to-increase-php-memory-limit)
Please advise.

Hi Aviv,

Thanks for reaching out.
There might be some other reason behind it, even if you have already done a few steps, I would like to suggest troubleshoot the following common issue again to help us to recognize the reason.

1.Theme Related Issue
2.Plugin Conflict
3.Theme Update related issue
4.Child Theme Related issue
5.CSS/JS Customization
6.Disabling Cache
7.Disabling CDN
8.Increasing PHP Memory Limit

We would also like to know, how it works after activating any default theme like TwentyTwenty.
If you discover that the issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If that does not help, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thank you for this.
Going through the list provided, items3 and 5-8 are not applicable in my case. For now, item 2 appears to be the culprit for the resource drainage.
I will keep you posted if issues arise relating to the Theme itself while working on the site.

Hey Aviv,

We’re glad you found the culprit. do update us if you still face such issue. I’d also recommend you to take a look at the Performance article here https://theme.co/docs/how-to-improve-site-performance to optimize your site.
