New Taxonomy Pages

Hi!

I see there is some movement on the Beta forum. Warming up, eh?

I am sure you guys will get this covered, but I’d still like to point out an important UX/SEO aspect of the taxonomies.

Taxonomy pages, mostly Categories but in many cases also Tags, can be great for SEO if used correctly. To fulfill that purpose, they need to be a bit more than simple Index pages. To the least, they need to have their unique H1 titles and some unique content.

The unique content is usually added through the category description field which sadly wasn’t utilized with by X and Pro without hacking it in the Functions.php file. I’d like to see this covered with the new layout builder. It would be even better if there is an option to use the Content builder to create unique content on the per-taxonomy basis. I know we can always use Global blocks, but that’s a bit clumsy. Something more elegant would be great.

An option to assign Headers and Footers to individual Categories and Tags is vital as well.

Thanks!

Yes please. And there’s more SEO stuff that needs to be looked at. Like image alt tags that don’t get retrieved from WordPress.

Yes, absolutely! I posted a screenshot over here of the assignment control that will be used to determine where things will appear: A few aimless thoughts

Once assigned, you can use dynamic content to pull through the title and use a Headline element to get your H1. It doesn’t show the taxonomies there, but for building archive pages there are options to assign to a taxonomy pages. There is also a condition you can add to determine if you’re on the first page or not.

This will be found on Headers, Footers, and Layouts, so you can control exactly what designs are used for different bits of content.
