I activated x theme on wordpress by accident and now I cannot uninstall or revert back to my orginal theme. How can i delete it as the active theme ?
Hi there,
You can simply activate the theme that you want to use in Appearance > Themes.
Hope this helps.
I tried that. It does not work. The X theme still remains the active theme.
I am having a few issues with my purchased X theme.
-
When I install the theme it becomes my active theme without my prior consent. Once it has become the active theme when I try to click activate on another theme I am brought instead to the X menus on my dashboard and X remains active.
-
Once inside the X menu I am met with a message saying a failed attempt at installing Cornerstone has been made and that I should install it manually. This link brings me to an Apex page with a zip folder which I presume contains Cornerstone but no installation instructions.
Basically I want to install both the Xtheme and Cornerstone to create a new theme offline using test drive plugin then change themes when I am ready. Instead X theme makes its self the active theme automatically and ruins the layout of my current theme. I have tried reinstalling twice but the same thing has happened and have spent all morning fixing my sites current homepage.
Any help that you could offer me in this regard would be greatly appreciated,
Regards,
Farrell McManus
Hi There,
You can connect to your server through a FTP client (FileZilla) and then you can manually delete X theme & Cornerstone plugins.
X theme directory will be located under (/wp-content/themes/X).
Cornerstone plugin will be under (/wp-content/plugins/Cornerstone)
Once you delete those directories, you should be able to activate another theme through your WordPress backend.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the reply, I have done both of those things.
But I am in a situation now where if I reinstall X it will become the active theme thus affecting my current theme again. Do you know if there is a way to stop X automatically becoming active? I know it should and I am at a lost to why it is becoming active as I am not clicking the activate button. I had also installed Cornerstone from the plugins page but it did not seem to be recognized by X. How do i go about manually installing the cornerstone zip as suggested by the c control panel?
Thanks again
Hi there,
That seems to be a weird issue. Is there a chance that you can provide us with your admin and FTP details in a secure note so that we can check it?
Thank you.
Please find below.
Hi there,
Thanks for the details.
I have checked your site and X seems to be not installed anymore and another theme is active on the site.
Were you able to get it sorted already?
Hi I don’t think you fully grasp the problem I am having with the theme. I am aware I have managed to revert back to my previous theme as I have stated I had to manually uninstall the X theme from the FTP. My problem is now that if I attempt to install the Xtheme again it will auto activate itself and ruin my live sites current layout. So I need help in figuring out how to stop it becoming active once the install is complete.
Hi There,
The issue was caused by the plugin Theme Test Drive.
It is fine now.
Please take a look.
Thanks
Amazing thank you very much for your help, just one other thing I am going to do some editing of the xtheme using test drive but my X dashboard is saying that an attempt to install cornerstone failed and that I must install cornerstone manually. The link takes me to a page to download a zip file. Is there instructions on how to install Cornerstone in this way? I have attached a screenshot of the destination of the download cornerstone link.
Thanks again,
Farrell.
Hey Farrell,
The installable Cornerstone zip file is stored in x.zip\x\framework\plugins. You can extract it from there and install in your site.
Thanks.
Thank you for your help Christian, I am currently up and running with the theme and finding it great so far. I am however having a slight issue with one of my headline tags. It wont seem to update the generic text to the text I have entered. Is there a way to force cornerstone to update the text. Please find attached a screenshot of my problem. Thanks for your help.
Hello There,
We haven’t fully tested X theme/Cornerstone with Theme Test Drive. Please understand that Cornerstone preview is running a live preview. Maybe Theme Test drive limits the preview which is why it is not updating any of your changes. Another thing is that Cornerstone runs in the site which is sensitive if there are any JS error on the page which might have conflict and prevents Cornerstone preview from displaying the changes or updates.
I would suggest that you create a staging site instead. This is very useful because you can test drive any X and any other updates in the staging area, do customizations and troubleshooting without disrupting your live site. Once everything is perfect, you can easily and flawlessly proceed the update in the live site. To know how to create a staging area, please check out these articles:
Please let us know how it goes.
Thanks for the reply, Theme Test drive works ok its just a bit slow at times it turns out. I have a quick question about cornerstone. I am editing a page but I seem not to be able to make my sections fill the full width of the webpage. I have managed to get this effect previously on my about page but cannot remember how I achieved it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
this is what i want to achieve again.
Hi there,
D you mean you want the page to be fullwidth?
If so, you will have to set the Page’s Template to Layout - Fullwidth.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Jade I have little experience using WordPress this is exactly what I needed to do. Thanks and have a great Christmas.
Glad we could help.
Cheers!
