Need a clean fresh upload of x but uploads are keeping old data and not giving me a clean template to work on

Hello, I was talked into deleting the main homepage and starting fresh that. Very dumb move I know. Now despite clearing cache, removing x from public html, removing cornerstone and uploading everything new (yes I activated a different theme first) I can’t get a fresh start from new x upload. Problem is possibly in WP pages hierarchy, but want to know for sure how to get a clean upload. I used x a decade ago…but I am rusty on all things x and wp right now. Thanks in advance, Leni

Hi Leni,

Thanks for reaching out.
I would suggest you follow the below steps while uploading the newer version of X and activating the Cornerstone.

  1. Delete the existing Cornerstone.
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to install the Cornerstoneautomatically. It will be on the latest version

If you have already followed the above steps, and you are still facing the same issue, there might be some different reasons behind your issue. I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us to recognize the reason.

1.Theme Related Issue
2.Plugin Conflict
3.Theme Update related issue
4.Child Theme Related issue ** if you have activated it.
5.CSS/JS Customization
6.Disabling Cache
7.Disabling CDN

Hi Peter. I’ve followed the instruction and checked what should be checked/done - caveat - I’m not a developer so ‘should’ only applies to what a non-developer can handle. I suspect the problem is:
Destination folder already exists. /home/seqxtcq1/public_html/wp-content/themes/x/
Is there a way to get rid of that destination folder without breaking anything and then executing a fresh install?

Hi Leni,

If you have already activated any default theme, you can delete it from WordPress admin dashboard Appearance > Themes. Also, you can delete it by accessing the folder through the FTP/CPanel. After deleting X, please follow the steps to install the newer version of X and Cornerstone as explained in the previous comment.

Hope it helps.
Thanks
