Hello I’m trying to customize the behavior and color of the navbar indicator.
I’m currently using an anchor link on the home page and the indicator is showing both the Home link and Contact Us link as active. I’d like to remove the active indicator from Contact Us until you reach that point on the page and at that point, remove the indicator from the Home menu link.

Hi Jerome,
That is happening because the contact us section is still in homepage. To resolve that, please do not your menu as Primary Menu, navigate to Appearance > Menus and uncheck your menu as Primary Menu.
Then on your Navigation Inline element turn On the Current Link option.
