Mp4 video background header not working on chrome on windows 10

Hi There

Client has reported this issue, as far as I can see chrome supports the mp4 video header. However they claim it is not working on chrome for them only in edge.

Can you confirm that mp4 video background works in chrome on windows 10 and advise what I could do to rectify this?

HI there,

Thanks for writing around! Mp4 video header works fine in Chrome, Your mp4 file could be corrupted. Please download HandBrake (https://handbrake.fr/) and convert your video to .mp4 format. Re upload it and insert the new video file in your header.

Let us know how this goes!

Hi Nabeel

It works fine on chrome on mac. Just some windows machines. Can you take a look for me?

Hi there,

I checked the case with Windows and it worked correctly but I compare it with my Macbook Pro and it takes longer to load so many times that might cause the issue and make the visitor believe it is not working.

I checked the video in details and actually extracted the actual file and checked, it is about 10MB which is pretty decent and actually perfect size for a video.

I am not sure why sometimes it is not loading fast as it should in Windows. I suggest that you also check for the Codec settings as sometimes devil is in details. Here I found a good information regarding the codec support of browsers which you can check in your video editing software:

And also try to add all alternative video formats there.

Thank you.

Hi Christopher, thank-you for your insight.

Can I ask how I can add and instruct the header to offer alternative formats?

I believe it may be my clients hardware not using h264 codec. But in that case a backup delivery method of an alternative file would seem to be the ideal solution as we cannot tell clients to start downloading extra codecs.

How can I tell X Pro : if mp4 not playing / fallback to this vide file instead.

Kind regards

Hey @ragewebdesign,

Please try adding ogv or webm version. You will need to separate the path with a pipe |

MP4 is a cross browser video format though. The issue most probably is with the video codec embedded in the video itself. Also try reformatting the video with the tool suggested earlier.

Thanks.
