Moving Domain

I need to move my site to a different domain on the same hosting server. Do I need to change anything besides the wp-admin.php file? Both domains are live on the same server, they just point to different folders. On GoDaddy all I have to do is switch the folders they are pointing to but what else do I have to change in the theme folders or database to ensure that it doesn’t crash the site?

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for reaching out.

That sounds to be a migration but we’re not fully familiar how Godaddy handle it. The theme and cornerstone only runs on top of Wordpress so we’re not fully familiar how it should be handled. I recommend contacting Godaddy or a webmaster for the domain change transition.

As for migration, I can only recommend this https://wpshout.com/quick-guides/all-in-one-wp-migration/, but I’m not sure what’s the best alternative for Godaddy hosted sites.

Thanks!

I’m not switching hosting services or even moving the location of the site, just changing which domain points to that site. Migration looks like it’s only for moving your site to a different hosting service or if I was actually moving the site to a different location. I guess the best way to put it is this:

mysite.com sits at /mysite2 (this is where the site currently is at)
mysite.org sits at /mysite

I need:

mysite.com to sit at /mysite
mysite.org to sit at /mysite2 (this is the same folder but the domain will be .org now instead of .com)

Hey There,

When dealing with domain or hosting issues it’s always the best course of action to talk to your hosting provider since each and every provider has an unique setup. Normally you will need to update the URL of the WordPress installation. You can do this by going to Settings > General inside your WordPress installation and changing the URL there. After doing so you can point the new domain to the installation and you should be all set.
