Modern Events Calendar shortcodes stopped working

Hey,

Today I noticed that suddenly some of the shortcodes I use for MEC aren’t displaying properly.
On my homepage, I have a countdown shortcode (which does not display at all) and an upcoming events shortcode (which does not show the events correctly, for example, one event with unlimited tickets is displayed as “sold out”).

I’ve tried creating new shortcodes, but I have the same problem in that case, causing me to think the problem is caused by something else then wrong settings or just some conflict. I’ve tried disabling other plugins, including my caching plugin, but nothing seems to work.

Do you have any idea of what else I can do? The website just went live and we have already received some bookings, so a reinstall of the plugin is not possible I believe.

Thank you in advance,

Floris

Hi @KEIcie_GSZMayday,

There could be a plugin or custom code that affect your MEC shortcodes.

I recommend the following troubleshooting procedures before we investigate the settings.

  1. TESTING FOR THEME RELATED ISSUE
  2. TESTING FOR PLUGIN CONFLICT
  3. THEME UPDATE
  4. CHILD THEME
  5. CSS/JS CUSTOMIZATION
  6. VERSION COMPATIBILITY

Only if none of those help, please give us the following information in a Secure Note.

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin level username and password

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Thank you.

Hi,

Sadly, none of these solved my issue. I’m thinking, maybe updating MEC would work, the newest version of the plugin is compatible, according to the docs. However, since automatic updating is not possible, am I correct to assume I would need to update by reinstalling the plugin? I really can’t lose the data.

Oh well, I’ve send you a secure note. Thank you for your time. Please mind the fact that the website is in use already, so if you could only debug on temporary test pages, that’d be great!

Floris

Hi @KEIcie_GSZMayday,

On the homepage, the Countdown didn’t work because on your Countdown shortcode you didn’t specify what kind of event you are going to show.

Regarding that, some shortcode doesn’t display the events correctly the best thing you can do is to upgrade the MEC plugin to the latest version, your current version is 5.6.1 and the latest version is 5.7.0.

Recommended options to help you with your concern.

Option 1:
The first thing you need to do is backup your website then un-install the MEC plugin and reinstall the latest version of MEC. You don’t have to worry that you will lose your data because we can always revert it back when you have a backup of your website.

Option 2:
Create the staging area and then do the update of MEC plugin to the latest version, once confirmed and done, apply the change to the live site.

I hope it will help you about your concern.

Thank you.

Thank you,

I tried updating using option 2. I was afraid I would lose my data, but everything remained! Now everything works fine.

@KEIcie_GSZMayday,

Thank you.
