Modern Events Calendar is breaking my client's site on the back end

Hello Team,

The Modern Events Calendar plugin is causing the plugins page to have a 500 Internal Server Error. The site itself loads just fine and I can get to the dashboard as well, but when I try to load the plugins page, I get the 500 error. When I deactivate the MEC plugin via SFTP, the issue is resolved, but then I have no working events calendar!

I discovered it was this plugin causing the problem by working with tech support at my host. This is the error that the tech support person gave me:

Warning: get_headers(https://webnus.biz): failed to open stream: Connection timed out in /home/dh_dfbfad/sound-bath.com/wp-content/plugins/modern-events-calendar/app/libraries/envato.php on line 87

so it looks like the plugin is not able to connect to its library

First I tried updating the plugin, as an update was available. That did not solve the issue. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin. That also did not resolve the issue. I am at a loss for what to do next. Can you please help me? I will include the WP login info in a private comment.

Thank you!

Installation info:
website https://www.sound-bath.com
wordpress version 5.6
x theme 8.0.11 (child theme)

I have the same issue on a staging site. The plugins page some and other pages within the dashboard fail to load with a 500 internal server error.

My host diagnosed MEC as the cause, with the following error:

PHP Warning: get_headers(https://webnus.biz): failed to open stream: Connection timed out in /home/dh_vx38bd/manifest-nirvana.org/wp-content/plugins/modern-events-calendar/app/libraries/envato.php on line 87

I am not sure whether I can safely add a secure note when someone else is the topic owner, but please let me know if you need to access my site to check the error.

Hi @blissville,

Thanks for reaching out.

Your website is not accessible, please update it with the correct one. On the other hand, there could be a plugin or custom code that affects your Modern Events Calendar plugin.

I recommend the following troubleshooting procedures before we investigate the settings.

  1. TESTING FOR THEME RELATED ISSUE
  2. TESTING FOR PLUGIN CONFLICT
  3. THEME UPDATE
  4. CHILD THEME
  5. CSS/JS CUSTOMIZATION
  6. VERSION COMPATIBILITY

@outpost33, please also follow the common troubleshooting.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Thanks for your response @marc_a. I have corrected the single character typo that was in my site link in the secure note. I have also updated the login credentials because I realized that the one I provided to you would require two-factor authentication. The new one I created does not. You can now take a look at the site.

Most of the troubleshooting you mentioned has already been done. My host tech support found the issue and it is an issue with the MEC plugin not being able to connect to its library. @outpost33 is getting the same exact error message, so clearly something is wrong with the MEC plugin. Please look into it, and into my site and see if you can help us.

Thanks!
Rayna

Hi @blissville,

Since you are done with basic troubleshooting and the issue still persists. I suggest that you copy your live website to the staging area because I am afraid that when I enable the Modern Event Calendar plugin it will break your live website. After creating your staging area, please give all the information including FTP access in the secure note.

Thank you.
